A Challenge to Muslims About the Incarnation:

In Islam, al ṣūrah (the image, form, or appearance) is described in authentic hadith as something Allah possesses. The hadith explicitly states that Allah will appear to people in one form, and they will not recognize Him. Then He will appear in another form, and they will recognize Him.

If Allah can appear in different forms, and if He can reveal Himself in a recognizable appearance (apparently human), then why do Muslims object in principle to the Christian doctrine of the Incarnation?

Christians believe that God revealed Himself uniquely in Jesus Christ. If Islamic sources already affirm that Allah can appear in different forms, then the objection cannot simply be that “God cannot appear in a human form.” According to the hadith, Allah Himself appears in different forms.

So the real question is this:

If your own sources allow God to appear in different forms, on what logical basis do you reject the possibility that God appeared in the person of Jesus Christ?
