पूरे इतिहास में सवर्ण समाज ने ऐसे अभिजात वर्ग को भी जन्म दिया है, जिसने अपने ही समाज और राष्ट्र के साथ विश्वासघात किया। प्रस्तुत है भेड़ की खाल में छिपा एक और भेड़िया।

यह वही व्यक्ति है जिसने कभी बसपा के प्रत्याशी के रूप में निर्वाचन लड़ा था, उसी राजनीतिक परंपरा से जिसका उद्घोष था: “तिलक, तराजू और तलवार, इनको मारो जूते चार।” तब इसने अपनी सवर्ण पहचान भुलाकर उन लोगों से गठजोड़ किया, जो सवर्णों को अपशब्द कहते थे और उनके अस्तित्व को मिटाने की राजनीति करते थे।

आज राजनीतिक वेश परिवर्तित कर भाजपा में आने के उपरांत इसे सवर्ण पहचान तभी स्मरण आती है, जब उसका उपयोग सवर्णों पर प्रहार करने और भाजपा के शीर्ष नेतृत्व की चाटुकारिता करने में हो।

यह सवर्ण आंदोलन को राष्ट्रविरोधी बताता है और स्वयं को सवर्ण समाज का प्रतिनिधि प्रस्तुत करता है। इसका नवीनतम तर्क तो और भी अद्भुत है: सवर्णों को संपन्न वर्ग अथवा उपवर्गीकरण की चिंता क्यों हो, क्योंकि उन्हें आरक्षण नहीं मिलता।

अर्थात् सर्वाधिक कर दो। उन्हीं करों से संचालित योजनाओं का दासों की भाँति वित्तपोषण करो। अपने ही धन से व्यवस्था चलाओ। परंतु यह प्रश्न पूछने का दुस्साहस मत करो कि तुम्हारा धन कहाँ जा रहा है। भार वहन करो, जातिगत भेदभाव सहो और मौन रहो।

और यह महोदय हमें त्याग का पाठ पढ़ा रहे हैं।

इसका पाखंड यहीं समाप्त नहीं होता। इसके अपने बच्चे अमेरिकी नागरिक हैं। भारत की जातिगत राजनीति से इसके पास खोने को कुछ नहीं, पाने को बहुत कुछ है। यह चाहता है कि भारतीय नागरिक अपने बच्चों के भविष्य की बलि दें, ताकि यह और इसके राजनीतिक स्वामी उस राजनीति से लाभ उठाते रहें।

अर्थात् स्वयं का भविष्य सुरक्षित रखो, अपने बच्चों को विदेश भेजो और फिर भारत में रहने वाले भारतीयों से कहो कि वे अपने बच्चों का भविष्य जातिगत राजनीति की वेदी पर चढ़ा दें।

वाह रे त्याग!

जिस व्यक्ति का इस व्यवस्था के परिणामों में कोई वास्तविक हित नहीं है, वही चाहता है कि उसके समस्त परिणामों का भार आप उठाएँ।

यह सामाजिक न्याय नहीं है। यह सिद्धांत का मुखौटा धारण किए राजनीतिक अवसरवाद और विश्वासघात है।

When your core voters are disillusioned with you, the last thing, the absolute last thing, you should do is shame them.

This is Ajay Alok, BJP's national spokesperson. Today, he made a video criticizing, in a condescending tone, those GCs expressing anger with the BJP. If he was told by the party to do it, God help the party. And if he did it on his own initiative, thinking he would get noticed by the high command by attacking GCs despite being a GC himself, thereby getting better positions, then the party must show him the door to control the damage he has done.

The funny part is that he joined the BJP only in 2023. Before that, he was in the LJP, BSP, and JDU, and now he is preaching faith in the party to GCs.

What is even more ironic is that both of his children are US citizens. They will not be affected by the reservation politics here, and yet he is gaslighting GCs who are speaking out against reservation. In his follow-up tweets, he even called those GCs disgruntled with the BJP "nasli bewafa."

Dear BJP,

These were your unconditional foot soldiers, the bedrock of your movement. For decades, they carried the flag of Hindutva and stood firmly behind you at the ballot box, asking for little in return except the protection and dignity of the civilization.

They made conscious compromises with reservations and the harsh realities of the Atrocities Act, suppressing their own grievances for what they believed was a grander purpose: the consolidation and unification of Hindu society. But instead of delivering that unity, you fell into the comfortable rut of identity-driven social engineering and competitive appeasement.

The crowd on the streets may number in the thousands, but the resentment is shared by millions. Do not mistake loyalty for subservience, and do not treat your most reliable supporters like disposable political collateral. Listen to them, address their grievances, and afford them the equal dignity they deserve before their alienation becomes permanent.

India has been consistently warming up. Decade after decade, temperatures have been rising, and this is a one-way journey unless humanity makes a dramatic course correction.

All the heatwave deaths that are in the news are the result of this relentless warming. You will see a lot of numbers floating around, especially the recent viral study that a single day of extreme heat causes roughly 3,400 excess deaths across India, and a five-day heatwave nearly 30,000. But the truth is, we still don’t have good statistics on how many Indians are losing their lives because of heatwaves.

What we do know is this: a vast majority of Indian employment is still informal. The number of people employed in agriculture, construction, gig work, and other outdoor work remains disproportionately high. We have come a long way, but this is still the reality for a very large number of Indians.

For many Indians, staying indoors when temperatures rise is simply not a luxury they can afford. There is also a deep inequality in access to cooling. Yes, the fact that almost all of India has been electrified is a genuine achievement. But access to air coolers, let alone air conditioners, is still low and mostly concentrated among people with higher incomes. Fans only do so much when the heat is this brutal.

This is the inequality of heat. People with good incomes can afford coolers and ACs. They can work from home and can avoid the worst hours of the day. But this is a small subset of India.

Remember, more than 40% of Indians are still employed in agriculture, even though agriculture’s share of India’s GDP has consistently declined. These are the real Indians who will be most affected by rising temperatures. Many of the regions most exposed to climatic shocks like El Niño and heatwaves are also among the poorer regions of northern India.

So the people who will be hit the hardest by rising temperatures are the poorest Indians, across regions that are yet to see real prosperity.

Sadly, this is a systemic crisis. Individual actions help, but they are not enough. We need collective action, not just at a country level, but at a global level. Climate change is not an Indian problem but a global problem.

That said, there are still some low-hanging fruits that can start making a difference.

There is a lot of debate and controversy over India’s forest cover and whether it has increased or decreased. But when it comes to cities, we can see the loss of green cover firsthand. Trees are cut to make way for roads, houses, flyovers, and buildings. Whatever few trees remain are often trapped under pavements and concrete. This weakens them. This is one reason why trees often fall even after moderate rains.

If you have space, you can plant native species like neem, moringa, jamun, amla, and curry leaves. These trees have deep roots and can survive better. People often avoid planting trees because they worry that the roots will damage the foundations of their homes. But in many cases, this fear is overstated.

These are small things which help.

But as depressing as it sounds, this problem ultimately needs systemic, collective action at a global level. And judging by the way the world is heading, it is very hard to have hope.

Rising temperatures are a serious challenge. They don’t have easy explanations, and they definitely don’t have easy solutions.

Another reminder of how fragile stability is in the private sector. One secures employment, income begins to flow, long-term plans take shape, home, car, loans, EMIs. And then, a single decision by the corporate to “rationalize” or “downsize,” and everything collapses overnight.

Unless you quickly re-enter the job market, fixed liabilities don’t pause; they compound stress and can upend an otherwise steady life.

While you earn, you must pay taxes. The moment you lose your job, you’re on your own. In fact, you even have to pay tax on the severance also.

Maybe it’s time to introduce reforms, such as mandating severance pay ranging from three months to one year based on an employee’s tenure, as is the norm in the West; allowing EMI pauses for a 3-6 months; and providing a time-bound monthly allowance from the govt for involuntary job losses.

If Ladla/Ladlis can get free money, free ration, free water, and electricity, without paying any income tax, why not support a worker who has been paying taxes and contributing?

“Not once — not during selection meetings, not on tour, not during matches — did Mahendra Singh Dhoni say drop Yuvraj Singh. I am going on the record.”

When asked if Dhoni objected when the committee decided to drop Yuvraj, Patil said:
“He had total confidence in the selection committee. He didn’t say anything.”

Speaking about the anger shown by Yograj Singh, Patil added:
“A father feeling strongly about his son is not wrong. But the blame is being placed in the wrong place.”

He revealed that the selectors had a direct conversation with Tendulkar.

“When we sat down with him, I asked one question: ‘What are your plans?’
He replied, ‘Why?’ I told him the committee was looking for a replacement. He was shocked. Later he called me again and asked, ‘Are you serious?’ I said yes.”

Patil made it clear that the committee never formally dropped Tendulkar or asked him to retire.

“Selectors can drop a player. Selectors cannot tell a player his career is over. We asked his plans. He said he wanted to continue. We said okay.”

About Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir was eventually dropped when Shikhar Dhawan came into the team.

He said : “We have been on the same television shows — News18, ABP — Gauti is there, I am there. But he has never once looked at me. Not even a glance. Every time I say hello, there is no response.”

Patil said they used to share a close relationship earlier. Gambhir would call him every couple of weeks, and even checked on him when Patil was removed as coach years ago. But that connection disappeared after the selection decision.

“He doesn’t forget and he doesn’t forgive. That’s fine. I still respect him. I still like him.”
