be the kind of engineer who can spend an entire weekend going down a rabbit hole on how a database actually works internally or why a distributed system behaves the way it does i like reading research papers implementing ideas from them and then breaking my own implementation to understand where my assumptions were wrong i spend most of my time thinking about backend systems distributed systems databases concurrency networking operating systems and ai infrastructure and i want to understand things below the abstraction instead of just knowing how to use a framework i want to know how postgres executes a query how indexes are laid out how transactions and mvcc work how redis handles its event loop how a scheduler moves work through a system how grpc and tcp behave under load how memory and cpu actually affect performance and how distributed systems deal with failure ordering consistency and state i build in go rust and python and i am constantly trying to get closer to the machine while also understanding the higher level systems built on top of it i genuinely enjoy studying computer science for its own sake and i am happiest when i am given a difficult technical problem that has no obvious answer and have to read papers source code documentation and experiments until i understand it deeply i want to become the kind of engineer who does not just make systems work but understands why they work and can build them from first principles

What drives you to strenghten your fundamentals and how are you able to do it? so many concepts keep coming in but I realised that end of the day we need to understand how systems communicate. Converting 2d vector into 1d for easier SIMD ops was also nice.

To the young generation: Please STOP being a consumer of information produced by others, START upgrading yourself, your skills (mental, emotional, physical, techinical), LEARN all the good things that are their to learn so you can apply them, avoid the bad things.
Do not expose yourself to too much information on a daily basis (videos, photos, sounds) as our mind is not capable to process too much information at such a young age.
Most of the information is designed to simply tickle our senses and provide us momentary pleasure but we will loose the ability to filter the good from bad and simply become reactors to information we receive. They make us an emotional wreck and affect our ablity to interact with fellow humans.
Too much information going into our system reduce our ability to listen and learn, reduce introspection skills, reduce patience levels, affect attention span, and make us jumpy, irritable,bored and restless.
Not more than 10 to 15 minutes per day of social media could be practised. Go out and play with friends all kinds of sports, crack jokes, laugh together, discuss, debate, argue, refute ideas. Otherwise read books, listen to music, do painting, go for a walk, water the plants in the garden, be with nature.

I’d like everyone to just try this with a bat in hand and try and get into this position. Just try. To be equally balanced on both feet and being on the balls of the feet POST TRIGGER. It’s an almost impossible position to get into. You will always most often be more weighted on one foot. Some of you will even find it hard to get into this without a bowler bowling to you even when you’re doing it really slowly, let alone quickly in a match scenario with someone bowling.

Now try doing it when someone is throttling it down at 150+ clicks when you have 0.4 seconds to react. Slightly lesser even.

Ps - this was bowled on 4-5th stump and whipped BEHIND square.

When I talk about genius and sheer ability, i mean this. Couldn’t care less about records and stats.

Depth-aware light injection in TypeGPU

I got a 448x448 monocular depth model down to ~8 ms on my M4 Pro across ~250 dispatches, which is fast enough to use in realtime :D
Since the inference is written directly in TypeGPU, I can just feed the depth buffer straight into the lighting pass. It never has to leave the GPU or go through any extra synchronization/interop step

Inference, lighting and draw all go through the same command encoder.
