@bnielson01 Genetics is still a largely blurry landscape. No 1-2-1 correspondence between genes and phenotypes, let alone behaviors. They'll say it's noisy, stochastic and complex. Even when a single dominant gene is found causative of a trait, it's just not always expressed (↓penetrance).
@stevenstrogatz I'm a mathematically-challenged biologist who thinks he could do much better with some math literacy🥲I've been using AI to formulate some ideas mathematically but I doubt its soundness. If AI really lowers the barrier to entry, then,I hope, I shouldn't be missing much after all.
From planaria to minds: a Popperian conjecture awaiting refutation. Not just another society of minds theory.

1/12 Ever wonder why "aha!" moments feel like they pop from nowhere? Or why therapy sometimes clicks while meds don't?Introducing the Splitting Self Conjecture (SSC): Your mind splits into sub-selves to tackle life's puzzles—like a worm regenerating. Mad? Thread 👇

@drmichaellevin 6/12: Example: Math exam. Problem hits—Math Solver sub-self takes "Supervisor" role, watches Exam-Taker sub-self grind. You "see" the steps... then BAM! Solution pops. That's Supervisor's hidden output. Explains aha! moments perfectly. 💡 What was your last aha?
@drmichaellevin 10/12: AI angle: LLMs are "five degrees" from reality—simulated, not embodied. But SSC-inspired agents could split/evolve like us. Build a "planarian engine" for adaptive AI? Game-changer.
@drmichaellevin 9/12: Ageing? Lifetime sub-selves overload the system + hardware decay = senility. Anaesthesia? Global bioelectric shutdown severs sub-self ties. Even explains animal vs. human minds: We trade primal power for abstract sub-selves.
@drmichaellevin 7/12: Selection? Relevance Realization Algorithm (shoutout @vervaeke_john) picks the best sub-self via weights. Like a referee in a mind game. Wrong pick? Mental illness (e.g., Sadness sub-self dominates in depression).

4) Internal referee
Relevance realisation is endogenous/embodied: sub-selves compete and are selected internally. Proper influences permit internal selection; influences that steer/override the system violate autonomy and are excluded.
