Metabolomics is game-changing testing for chronic illness and it is here for consumers (and when you input your data into @joshual_tm model - you get a free analysis of your functional deficiencies and a clear roadmap for the most impactful interventions). This is a REALLY big deal. If you can do this - do this. I cannot stress this enough.
For many years the chronic illness community was relegated to using the OAT (Organic Acids Test) to tease out the key areas of dysfunction that were contributing to chronic illness. The company that is most known for this testing was called Great Plains (now they are called Mosaic).
Even a decade ago the results of an OAT test were generally enough for an experienced practitioner to resolve some of the key biochemical and pathogen issues in chronic illness patients.
Today we have metabolomics - and while many have not yet heard of it - it is metabolomic studies that have really moved the needle in unravelling the metabolic dysfunctions in MECFS (see studies by Hanson lab for example).
Even a few years ago this type of testing was research-only - there were no consumer versions or even versions that doctors could order.
Today we have a few consumer-oriented players on the scene. The two I have been using are @iollohealth and https://t.co/yJysYTqklB - their test is called "the Aristotle". Data from https://t.co/yJysYTqklB can be plugged into the Born Free model to track your unique pathway dysfunctions and the platform to use Iollo is on its way.
Its hard to overstate how important this will be to personalized treatment in MECFS - and its here now. You can run this test, upload your data, and get immediate results showing deficiencies and compromised pathways. It really is revolutionary.
Iollo is much cheaper than https://t.co/yJysYTqklB but has ~50% of the metabolite markers (still in the hundreds though). It is also about the same cost as the OAT from Mosaic - and while OAT is helpful - it is a small fraction of what we get with Iollo or https://t.co/yJysYTqklB metabolomics.
Here is my suggestion. If you can afford https://t.co/yJysYTqklB - get it. It is the gold standard but you will need a doctor or naturopath or health coach to order it for you. It can be a really expensive test but not all practitioners charge the same amount. If you are a health coach you can apply to order it directly and can get the test at wholesale price (even if you are just purchasing one test).
If you only have a few hundred bucks for testing get Iollo. OAT is a nice additional supplement but is no longer the most helpful test. Get a microbiome test as well - @biomesight is a decent option but there are much better options now if you can afford it - like the Elie Microbiome test from https://t.co/yJysYTqklB which sequences pathogens including bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi.
Get an oligoscan test for intracellular minerals (and heavy metals) or do a CMA blood test - regular 'serum/blood tests' are not helpful for this as we need to see what is in your cells not just floating around in the blood.
From here - plug your data into the Born Free model and it will give you the personalized data you need to really move the needle.
If you are a chronic illness health coach or doc who wants to help people get this testing (https://t.co/yJysYTqklB) closer to wholesale price - let me know and I will help you. I think this is the most important testing platform currently available and getting it to the people who need it - should be a priority of the chronic illness community right now. I dont have the functional capacity to take this on as a lead right now - but if you do - I will help.
