@oniheysamrai Yes, I was just explaining. If you want my opinion, then it's the same as yours. I think we should be free to express anything. Unfortunately, society/culture/government does attach consequences to certain things, like threats and defamation.

If you mean in general, then it's probably because society/culture shaped the laws of what is or isn't acceptable.

@brikix Sure, I agree with the way you phrased it. You have absolute freedom to express anything you want but you don't have freedom from consequences. In that sense, it's not permission based but some people think if there are consequences you don't actually have "freedom"

@Mashiro_yuh When people say that, they mean they're allowed to criticize the government freely. Threats, defamation, inciting lawlessness, certain types of obscenity, etc... are not protected by freedom of speech/expression.

@boroasu @Mashiro_yuh The question was "does freedom of expression have exceptions?" and yes it does. And I gave an example of that. For many cultures/governments, lolicon works fall into that exception and are made illegal. I don't why you think I'm talking about a fictional character's dialogue.

@Mashiro_yuh Yeah, that’s exactly it. Where to draw the line is dependent on the culture/government. The uncensored depiction of genitals is allowed in America but it isn’t in Japan for example.

@lagrange4 You can’t say it to other people in real life is my point. It’s a limit on the freedom of speech/expression. It’s not an unlimited right like people think. This also applies to movies which is why “snuff films” are illegal.
