Most people overcomplicate their first trip abroad.
They try to see five countries in 10 days, spend half the trip dragging a suitcase through train stations, and come home exhausted.
Your first trip should make you want to travel more.
That is why Florence is such a good place to start.
The historic center is easy to walk, the major sights are close together, and history is everywhere. You can see the Duomo in the morning, cross the Ponte Vecchio in the afternoon, and watch the sun fall over the city from San Miniato al Monte.
But the best moments may happen between the landmarks.
An espresso at the counter. A quiet walk through Santo Spirito. Dinner in Oltrarno. Returning to the same café the next morning because you already know the way.
By the third day, Florence begins to feel familiar.
That is what the right first trip should do. It should open the world without wearing you out.
