Most Zim Hip Hop isn’t really Hip hop (that’s not to say it’s bad, just wrong classification)

Zim music is actually good and local music appreciation is on an upward trajectory. We just used have an obsession with other countries we deem cooler because we are a people that finds it hard to be proud of our own or sometimes national pride is mistaken for political affiliation.

People are vilified for standing with an artist they love for reasons outside music.

Zim Hip hop as a genre seems to be performing better than everything else which seems true but also it’s a social media illusion because it’s the genre with the audience with the most internet access.

Most big music bloggers don’t do it for the love of music, kunopostwa abhadhara.

Zimbabweans vanoteerera anzi nevazhinji arikupisa which doesn’t always translate to good art. But who is the judge of what’s good art or not ? 🤷🏾‍♂️

Unless your core fanbase gets obsessed with your work and how good it is no one outside of them will know you. Proof, the crazier or more obsessed the fanbase, the more popular an artist is deemed.

Kurira pa social media is not the ultimate measure of success. If you are having gigs pa weekend and you are doing what you love and you have enough for you and yours as an artist you are winning!
