Got a few DMs asking about César Peixoto’s high press, so I pulled out some plays from this season (mostly vs Benfica and Sporting). César has shown he can seamlessly switch between a well-organised mid-block and an aggressive (PSG-style) high press depending on the game context.
@ConceptScouting The fact that "[him being a] high-pressing coach doesn’t hold up." If you want to analyse that claim properly, you need to add context to the data presented. Numbers will tell any story you want them to.
@ConceptScouting (cont.) If you're Gil Vicente in the Portuguese league, you need to be smart about choosing the right moments to set up high pressing traps. He didn't excel because he did it all the time (nobody does it) - he excelled because he did it well when it was needed.
@ConceptScouting There's a reason why we don't usually look at data without looking at the actual matches.
César's Gil Vicente was one of the best (probably alongside Braga and, at times, Porto) at setting up a high pressing. However, context matters - it was Gil Vicente after all, not Benfica.
@nickysmilie Quick note: I’ve focused almost exclusively on short corners in these clips, but the team was quite prolific from all types of corners and long throws (!) during the season.
Big buzz around César Peixoto and Wolves right now - here’s a sneak peek at what he’s been doing lately. One of his recent specialities: attacking set pieces (2026 matches only)
@Wolves_OD Attacking minded;
One of the best at preparing mid/high-pressing;
Very strong in attacking set pieces;
Some doubts about his ability to cope with the pressure of having to win every match, but he was a top level player - which should help psychologically.
Simón Escobar (16) 🇦🇷 could be Argentina’s next ELITE left-back. Physical monster at 1.85m with elite attacking instincts. Is he the real deal?
