Fox knows that a lot of old rural white retirees have the channel on all day with the sound off (I know from being related to some of these very same folks), thus those constant hugely deceptive chyrons, which is all the "news" those audiences actually consume.
@Blake_Allen13 All the more impressive because Abbott is the absolute incumbent pillar of the entire Texas GOP. He is THE face of the state party to tons of folks. If Hinojosa pulls this off it is more than just poor GOP candidate quality, it would be a seismic realignment (fingers crossed...).
@Socdem_Michael And absolutely no effort to win over anyone but the Austin Whole Foods demographic, from what I remember (grew up in Texas and had multiple trips back during 2018).
Still remember this I heard: "The guy who isn't Hispanic calls himself Beto and the guy who is calls himself Ted."
@speechboy71 It is such a ridiculously obvious partisan play by a sitting Justice. There is no version of reality where he would resign next year if the Democrats retake the Senate in November. I can't believe anybody falls for it (OK, after ten years of this I guess I can).
Feeling energized and hopeful after joining @ChrisPappasNH, @Stefany4NH, and @CindeWarmington to rally in Rochester last night. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their Friday to join us.
@ktumulty I can't even. None of it makes any sense from start to finish. Eliminate the health insurance industry and have the government pick up the tab directly? Sure sounds like Communism to me.
Literally. That IS how the healthcare systems worked in the Soviet Union and its satellites.
@greggnunziata Well you can see his "announcement" is having its intended effect in getting the rightwing ecosystem to push a new message. But note he expects "to consider" retiring, which is a long way of saying he expects to retire.
People "consider" lots of things over the course of a year.
@neeratanden Yeah, he knows Fox and rightwing media need a new hook to get their base to the polls. The ad spends aren't working. Of course, he will not actually resign unless there is an R majority (or he resigns in the lame duck and they pull another Coney Barrett, they are that shameless).
The economic inequalities that existed in 1990 are still playing out. A case in point is the pension system, on which eastern Germans are much more dependent than those in the west, since there were no prior wealth-creating generations to inherit from.

German Unity Day readings!
I can't think of a better explainer of the long road to German reunification than Timothy Garton Ash (@fromtga). I was a student in Germany in 1989-90, and "In Europe's Name" brings the heady feelings of that time back to life. Hard to capture it now.
@DecodingFoxNews It is amazing to me how the GOP acts as though Biden's economic policies were responsible for the runaway inflation that hit *every* major economy during the pandemic.
Now we know that if Trump had won in 2020 and launched his trade wars (and real wars) it would have STAYED bad.
@sbg1 Another amazing transformation to cornpone country boy is Chip Roy, an East Coast transplant to Texas who decided to go full cow patty to win his House races.
@RobCJournalist The daily Berlin-Budapest train via Prague still offers a classic dining car with beer poured from the tap and meals cooked on a stove (at least I think it still does), as do the Polish railway services from Berlin to Warsaw, Wroclaw, and Krakow (once you cross the Oder that is).
Another goof in a Berlin election. It turns out that a CDU direct candidate in Spandau actually narrowly lost the race to the far-right AfD (by 35 votes in the final count), and the various reshufflings have reduced the city assembly from 158 to 153 seats.

If you live in Berlin and you like pumpkins, this is the weekend for you. The Schöneberg Pumpkin Festival is a fall-themed street fair, with pumpkin vendors, food and drink stands. The Dahlem Harvest Festival is a pick-your-own-squash deal at an educational farm. And pony rides!
