A ladder of participation is a model showing how we move up a spectrum from doing change "to" and "for" people to change "with" and "by" people. Here is a collection of participation frameworks, brilliantly collected and curated via Twitter by @noelito: https://t.co/lRUnXinTKw

When we start a change initiative, we should always create a theory of change, setting out how we believe our goals will be achieved through our actions. I like this approach: "impact mapping" as it starts with people & focuses on impact: https://t.co/h1wB6t8SYl TY @markdalgarno

@LouDowne I'm very interested in this topic as well and have done some reading/thinking about how vulnerability, intersectionality and sensitivity of research topics, and power can affect and impact those that are a part of (or not and should be a part of) the design process
We are WEIRD - Western, educated, industrialised, rich and democratic, and we make up 80% of study participants but only 12% of the world. As designers we have the power to acknowledge and overcome those biases we bring in, or to perpetuate them.
"Designers, when not taking into account the impact and effect of Western design practices over non-Western territories, are perpetuating colonisation."

@jonathancgrant @pollymackenzie @ResearchProfes Love this idea of making universities define a social theory of change. Too often school is about how well we can "apply current models" rather than if they should be there and how this goes into making the world a better place. #education#socialimpact
