The costume reflects unity among the nation’s tribes and celebrates resilience, identity, and pride.

Key elements include a crown and cape inspired by the quiver tree, representing endurance; a beaded necklace made of ostrich shells and traditional beads in vibrant colours, symbolising cultural harmony; and a corset featuring Khoisan beadwork, honouring femininity and heritage.

The skirt draws inspiration from Zambezi and Nama traditional attire, with colours evoking Namibia’s landscapes. Accessories like the Ondjeva and anklets reflect purity, industriousness, and well-being, embodying the spirit of Namibian women.

The Urban and Rural Development Minister, James Sankwasa, directed the Tsumeb Municipality to ensure that the people evicted from Endombo receive plots before the end of next month (November).

The minister also visited Extension 9, which is currently being serviced, and suggested that the people evicted from Endombo be relocated to that area.

In Kuvukiland, the minister was shocked at the size of the plots allocated to residents, adding that they reminded him of the apartheid era. The plots are less than 100 square metres.

The tanks put up by the municipality do not have water, and residents say they only got water in them yesterday due to the minister’s visit.

The minister expressed disappointment with the Tsumeb Municipal Council, accusing them of not visiting the informal settlements.
