Fantastic read on how four women scripted India’s track gold at Nagoya. And the description of the competition from Bahrain as Her Royal Swiftness was just right @jon_selvaraj

Patrrick Ruivo, the head of SETE that manages the Eiffel Tower is stepping down following a backlash over an incident in which female staff were asked to step aside during a visit to the Tower by Swaminarayan saints from Gujarat. Workers had gone on strike in protest & Eiffel Tower had to remain closed. The Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) had denied the allegations.
As an Indian and a Gujarati woman, from the State where this influential sect is headquartered, I have always asked why must women become invisible when these saints decide to visit and descend a public space or our offices? Ofcourse, our invisibility is always instructed as a request. Swaminarayan sect is the richest sect of Gujarat so pl calculate their impact.
Women are expected to step aside and disappear.
I will not disrespect Hindu religion by generalising these highly politically connected Swaminarayan saints as Hindu saints.
Faith deserves respect. But so does a woman's dignity.
If this controversy has finally forced the issue into the public conversation in France, perhaps it will also make us look harder at what we women are expected to tolerate at home.
We are NOT invisible. We deserve to be seen, heard and treated with equal dignity.
Thank you, France for beginning this conversation. And this action.

1. SIR as a backdoor, NRC-style citizenship determination project
2. Forced expulsions of Bengali Muslims to Bangladesh through direct police action
3. 'Demographic Change Committee' as a precursor to socio-economic disempowerment of minorities (which some states have already initiated through enactments like inter-religious land transfer rules)
4. CAA to ensure selective protection to non-Muslims
Many of us don't realise that the BJP's hydra-headed 'detect, delete, deport' programme is in full operation at the moment. Part of a new, more complex strategy that avoids attention-grabbing terms like "NRC" but achieves far more.
VERY IMPORTANT
Remember the #Kolkata Olypub controversy ?
In January 2026, content creator Sayak Chakraborty alleged that he had been served beef instead of the mutton steak he had ordered. The video went viral, a poor Muslim waiter was arrested, and the incident quickly acquired a political and communal dimension. Olypub later called it an “unintentional error”.
Now comes an interesting entry in the #BJP’s election expenditure declaration to the ECI.
The document records a payment of Rs 2.5 lakh to a person named Sayak Chakraborty under “Advertisement and Propaganda” in March 2026**
The Olypub video was in January.
The BJP payment was in March.
Is it the same Sayak Chakraborty?
If it is, what was the Rs 2.5 lakh payment for?
Was it for advertising? Content creation? Campaign work? Something completely unrelated?
The expenditure declaration may not provide the answer but the coincidence of the name, the timing and the category certainly warrants a closer look.
My documentary, “Faceless People - The Journey of Sri Lankan 🇱🇰 Tamil Refugees in India 🇮🇳” is more concerned with content and message than with form. As a director, it was tempting for me to focus on the immediate physical and emotional condition of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in India — the texture of their hopelessness, the quiet but steady erosion of hope and the palpable fatigue induced by the waiting. I had to fight off that temptation and stay focused on the larger question of their uncertain legal status, which is ultimately the reason their lives remain in limbo.
Please read on. In @the_hindu Metroplus. Thank you @shonalim and @ganesh_sanjana.
Two beat reporters who have fearlessly and consistently unearthed information key to holding the powerful to account are @vijaita of @the_hindu and @RitikaChopra__ of @IndianExpress
Beat reporters are vital.
Much gratitude and admiration.
The Election Commission of India is under fire like never before.
The SIR has struck 13 crore names off draft rolls, putting the EC at the centre of intense public debate over its role in deciding who gets to vote — and who doesn’t.
HOWEVER, what nobody knew: through that same period, some of the sharpest questions were being asked from inside.
Out today, after months of work. Our #ExpressInvestigation 🧵
(1/10)
What an expose by @RitikaChopra_ in The Indian Express. 14 times in 10 months, two Election Commissioners objected on record to poll panel steps during SIR.

The show of solidarity shown by the Washington media is praiseworthy.
In similar circumstances the Delhi media will NOT be united.
Indian media reflects Indian realities and made in India complexities.
We are divided by castes, language, region and most importantly class.
The class divide within Indian media world is huge.
The language divide within the media, particularly English versus rest, is quite deep and will never be bridged.

Even Fox News deemed as right of centre and soft on Trump stands up in solidarity with media houses like CNN banned from White House coverage. Entire presidential media pool will boycott coverage of Trump in protest. Example of a stark difference in how legacy TV newsrooms function in the world's oldest and largest democracies.
Where is the anger against this Man? No Wall to Wall Media Coverage, No one, the DMK, the ADMK, the Congress pushed for a discussion in the Assembly. No word from @CMOTamilnadu. And every day the revelations get more bestial.
Nearly half a year into its terms, the Government has yet to fill 21 vacant ambassadorial posts. This has hurt the country when it needs to garner international support following the Rasuwa disaster of 26 August.
