“I’m just in a better space right now. I’m thankful to Jamaica for identifying my talent & building me, but the leaders of the sporting entity broke me. So I’m thankful to Turkey for rebuilding me.”
Jaydon Hibbert after his 17.02m jump at the Rome Diamond League 💜
"I've never been to therapy or whatever that thing is, because I don't believe in it. I am my own therapy."

Let's Normalize Moms NOT thinking that cleaning your house without kids is a break. It's not. Showering is not a break. Grocery shopping alone is not a break. Those are basic chores and hygiene • BUT. Mother's are supposed to be grateful to get to do these things that literally everyone else... Just does?
No. Those aren't breaks... which is why at some point, moms get run down,
overexhausted, unappreciated, worn out, and they break.
And then you wonder why. Smh.
In 1931, Betty Robinson was severely injured in a plane crash. Unable to walk for two years, doctors concluded she would never race again. Unable to kneel for the conventional 100m start due to fractures and surgeries on her left leg, therefore competed only the 4x100m relay at the 1936 Olympics, where the American team won the gold medal.
At 30 years old, the mother of two children, Fanny Blankers-Koen was considered too old to compete at the 1948 Olympics in London and was expected to stay at home and look after her children. However, she won four gold medals in London and was the most successful athlete at those Games, earning her the nickname “the flying housewife.”
Wilma Rudolph was physically disabled for much of her childhood due to several early illnesses, including polio. She overcame these challenges through her teenage years and eventually competed in the 1960 Olympics, becoming the first American woman to win three gold medals at the same Games, as well as being acclaimed the fastest woman in the world during the 1960s.
The 11-second barrier has always been the pinnacle of the women’s 100m. As one of the strong favourites at the 1983 World Championships, Evelyn Ashford pulled a hamstring muscle in the 100m final. Despite still dealing with a minor injury the following season, she recorded an Olympic record of 10.97 seconds at the home Games in Los Angeles, becoming the first woman to break 11 seconds at the Olympics.
At the same Olympics in Los Angeles, Tessa Sanderson became the first Black woman to win an Olympic gold medal for Great Britain and the first woman to win an Olympic medal for Great Britain in a throwing event since the modern Olympics began in 1896.
Who says sport and fashion can’t mix? Aside from her record breaking performances on the track, Florence Griffith Joyner, or Flo-Jo, as she was nicknamed, was known for her bold fashion choices. From her long hair and jewellery to her uniquely designed running suits, she also sported six-inch-long colourful nails during the 1988 Olympics.
Graves’ disease nearly killed Gail Devers. After being diagnosed in 1990, she underwent various treatments. During radiation therapy, she developed blisters and swelling on her feet, leaving her almost unable to walk. She eventually recovered and went on to win the 100m at the 1992 Olympics — triumphing in a photo finish.
Irina Privalova was a successful sprinter but was missing the elusive gold medal at the Olympics. Her injury troubles began in 1996, which hampered her performances for the following few seasons. Convinced by her husband and coach, she moved up to the 400m hurdles in 2000. In just her eight ever hurdles race, Privalova, who was considered a novice among a lineup of established hurdlers, stormed to gold at the Sydney Olympics.
The year is 2004, and among the participants in the women’s sprints is Merlene Ottey. At 44 years old, the Athens Olympics would be her seventh consecutive Games, the most of any female athlete to this day.
When Allyson Felix became pregnant in 2018, Nike refused to guarantee salary protection for athletes in the months following pregnancy. She founded her own footwear company, Saysh, in 2021, and wore those spikes when she won two medals at the Tokyo Olympics that summer.
At the Paris Olympics in 2024, Sifan Hassan won medals in the 5000m, 10,000m, and marathon, becoming the first athlete, male or female, to win medals in all three events at the same Games since 1952.
Last summer, we bid farewell to Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce on the track, as the Jamaican officially retired following an illustrious career. Countless medals. Years of dominance. Colourful wigs. And a hilarious personality. While Shelly continues to inspire off the track, within the sport she has left a void that will be extremely difficult to fill.
They all dared to be great.
Happy International Women’s Day ❤️

The permanence of motherhood & the fact that you can never ever take a break from it are two main reasons I settled on having just one child.
Men will come with their “let people procreate” but the difference is they can easily choose to take a break or not participate at all.
