@majority_ncube My pleasure!

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@majority_ncube PrEP is very effective when used as directed and especially in combination with other preventative measures like condoms and needle exchanges.

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@majority_ncube South Africa has a nationalized medicine system, correct? You should be able to find PrEP in your local clinics and, I could be very wrong, but from what I understand there are a large number of programs in SA Rolling PrEP out to high risk groups, sex workers, students etc...

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@majority_ncube Also ensuring that all those with HIV/AIDS in SA have access to medications and treatment are the most effective ways to help stop the spread in combination with education and outreach.

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@majority_ncube Of the adult US population - only ~0.6% of adults have HIV/AIDS. In South Africa it’s almost 19% of the adult population. With an infection rate this high #PrEP for anyone who is sexually active whose status is negative isn’t unintelligent.

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@majority_ncube That can often depend on a lot of factors, for instance, location. Looks like you’re in South Africa, yes? In SA there’s a large number of factors that put substantially more people across race and gender at risk than where I live in the US.

A7: I’m so excited about the empowerment #PrEP can offer the #trans community. It’s an easy way for us to protect ourselves and those we love every single day. #ExplorePrEP #hiv #transhealth

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

A6: I dream of providers knowledgeable in #trans and #queer health who create safe trusting spaces for their trans patients and feel confident talking to them about sexual health, drug use, HIV, STIs

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

We have too high of an infection rate for HIV and other STIs in the trans community. There are so many resources for free testing and free prep in the community. transhealth @transchance

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

A6: More of my siblings in our #trans and #queer and #LGBTQ2 family willing to speak up and speak out and encourage others to #gettested #ExplorePrEP because we have to advocate and support each other. This is just another form of #selfcare

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@LauraMeyers_ @PPMW_DC Every state has different laws about parental consent - This video isn't geared towards patient populations but there is so much useful information about adolescent consent and #PrEP https://t.co/sF3oTo5drW

@explorePrEP A4: Here is a great resource for questions to ask your provider https://t.co/DT5WGtKhGm If you like your provider and they dont know #PrEP ask them if they would be willing to learn!! #Prep is not just for #HIV providers to give out!!

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

A4: #trans people have a harder time from before we walk in the door to see a doc. It’s doubly importantly feel empowered and comfortable with your provider. If you’re nervous, bring a trusted friend or partner #transhealth #ExplorePrEP

[Black AIDS Institute @blackaids]

On Dec 6 & Dec 11, we’re proud to partner with #Mississippi Health Dept to train medical providers & community/faith leaders on #PrEP. Please share!

A4: You, the patient, are always your own best advocate - if you don’t feel comfortable with your provider or they don’t seem knowledgeable- It’s okay to find a different provider who you ARE comfortable with. #ExplorePrEP

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

@transchance @DCTakesOnHIV I took 3 pills a day for 45 days bc they knew my patient had a high viral load. But I’m doing great! And.... my regular HIV tests have been negative despite the event! #ExplorePREP #PEP #HIV

A3: #PEP is medication to reduce your risk of acquiring an HIV infection AFTER you have had a KNOWN exposure. I took PEP after I was stuck with a needle as a health care worker of an HIV+ patient. It kept me from getting an HIV infection

Estimates for HIV infection for #trans women are as high as 22% #knowyourstatus #knowyourrisk #PrEP #ExplorePrEP

[Tanith@TransChance @TanTransChance]

A2: #PrEP helps communities at higher risk like #transwomen and especially trans women of color reduce their chances of infection #ExplorePrEP
