The image of Chinese doctoral supervisors in Western academia is riddled with stereotypes. I analyse 450 Zhihu comments & derive 3 images : (1) ambitious and supportive, (2) sneaky and exploitative, and (3) colonised. Read my critical analysis: https://t.co/egCUr25SQe
Heart and mind are full from attending the beautiful Research with International Students conference. In awe of the amazing community @JLMittelmeier ,@SE_Lomer and team have built in Manchester!
https://t.co/YWpwtoNB22 Heartbroken to learn about what has happened to Journal of International Students. I do not and cannot stand for what it has now morphed into.
I sent this message to the JIS editorial team today:
Dear Senior Editor, Section Editors, Associate Editors, and Assistant Editors, as well as the Digital Storytelling Team:
I am writing to share that I have resigned from my role as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Students.
The new team overseeing editorial management does not share our journal’s historic commitment to open access and has initiated article processing charges (APCs). I was not involved in the decision to transfer oversight of the journal to this new team.
The new model means our journal and community will be forever changed. I have no words that adequately express all that has been lost with this decision.
I do have words to share with all of you: thank you. Thank you for your contributions and commitment that made JIS an inclusive global community accessible to all from 2011 to 2023. Rest in power.
- Chris
