Há alguns anos, um fã compartilhou em suas redes sociais como foi conhecer Jensen Ackles. Durante o encontro, ele contou ao ator que havia se descoberto um homem trans e que Dean Winchester, personagem de Supernatural, foi o único modelo masculino que teve durante parte da vida, ajudando-o nesse processo de autodescoberta.

Ao ouvir a história, Jensen segurou as mãos do fã, olhou em seus olhos e disse: "Fico feliz que o Dean e a série tenham te ajudado a fazer isso."

Esse não é um caso isolado. Ao longo dos anos, diversos fãs da comunidade LGBT+ relataram que Jensen sempre foi atencioso e respeitoso com questões de identidade de gênero e orientação sexual, chegando até a corrigir pessoas que usavam o nome ou os pronomes errados de alguém.

O próprio ator já comentou que essa causa é muito importante para ele, em parte porque tem uma tia lésbica, com quem sempre foi muito próximo. Além disso, Jensen também participou de campanhas para arrecadar fundos em apoio à OutYouth, organização sem fins lucrativos que oferece acolhimento e recursos para jovens LGBT+ na região central do Texas.
