I tried so hard to make Momma squirrel have the best life while she was here. To say she was spoiled would be the biggest understatement. She had her favorite foods, her favorite spots in the yard, and somehow even her own little routines that everyone else seemed to respect. Every morning felt like checking in on family. She knew where the snacks would be, where the water was, and where she could rest without worry for a little while.

She brought so much life with her everywhere she went. Watching her raise babies, protect them, teach them, and slowly introduce them to the world was something I will never forget. She trusted me in ways that still amaze me when I think about it. There were moments she would sit nearby and just watch me like we understood each other without needing anything at all.

I know she was “just a squirrel” to some people, but to me she was part of my everyday life. She left little memories everywhere around this yard that never really go away. Certain branches, certain sounds, certain times of day still make me look for her.

If love, safety, full bellies, warm places to sleep, and being cared for truly mattered to her, then I hope she knew just how deeply she was loved every single day she was here.

Lorelei and Mochi are as small as they look, and about 8 weeks old. This brother and sister duo was found late last night with no mother or siblings to be found—yes, we looked. We don’t know their story, but we will give them the best chance we can. Babies in this country have the cards stacked against them, but today they played on a blanket in sunshine in the safety of caretakers and vets, full bellies to boot.

😢 Not every ending is happy, and we lost a puppy very dear to us yesterday, Ellie, and her loss is weighing heavily right now. But every little life we find here deserves a chance, and we will give these little ones all we can.
