This new book, by a major scholar of India’s party system, will be read and studied long after the present General Elections are done and dusted. It is available here:

Judge of the Israeli Supreme Court, Daphne Barak Erez, was invited to speak at Humboldt University in Berlin.
However, she left the hall due to the large chants protesting against he country's genocide in Gaza.
In 2022, Sai Deepak argued at the High Court that only a Brahmin could be appointed as the high priest in Sabarimala and that the idol would be rendered impure by the touch of outcastes.
The same man has now written an opinion piece - about how caste is a western construct 🤣
Students in the UK held walkouts and protests demanding institutions withdraw support for companies like BAE Systems, which are providing weapons and defence support to Israel.
A country which can't register births and deaths (no census since 2011 and the lack of data after the pandemic) wants to register live-in relationships.
Very much looking forward to delivering the Tanner lecture at Cambridge tomorrow. It's on: 'Intimations of Apocalypse: Catastrophist and Gradualist Imaginings of the Planetary Future.' The in person event is sold out, but zoom registration is open to all:

Recently while interacting with some college students in Bangalore, we asked what the role of #Parliament is in their imagination. After the usual responses around law making role, one student said, "to criticise the government"!!
It was interesting and indeed heartening to see a young student understand what many of us fail to. Parliament will always be an arena of contestation between govt and opposition and a healthy balance of power between both is needed if #democracy is to survive.
On 26th January 1950, the Indian #Constitution came into force. For us to be patriotic means to uphold the democratic ideals of our #Constitution and continuously work to achieve those ideals to make our institutions better. This #75thRepublicDay, renew your pledge to the Constitution and let's make Parliament work for us again! #ReclaimConstitution

""Genocidal utterances are not out on the fringes but they are embodied in state policy...The distinctive feature of this state has not been the silence as such but the reiteration of genocidal intent at every stage..."

South Africa legal team's Adila Hassim @CIJ_ICJ: “Genocides are never declared in advance, but this court has the benefit of the past 13 weeks of evidence that shows incontrovertibly a pattern of conduct & related intention that justifies a plausible claim of genocidal acts.”
