India is honored to host the First BIMSTEC Home Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi on 13 October 2026. I extend a warm welcome to the Hon’ble Home Ministers and member state delegations.
This historic meeting underscores our shared resolve to combat terrorism, transnational organized crime, narcotics radicalization, trafficking, illicit financial flows, and cyber threats. Through decisive coordination, we remain committed to building a safer, stronger, and more secure BIMSTEC region.
Shocked and anguished by the tragic fire incident at the hotel on Mirza Galib Street in Kolkata.
While we remain focused on the rescue & relief operations and conduct investigation regarding what went wrong, it is impossible to ignore the reality we are facing today. This tragedy is a grim reminder of the legacy of negligence left behind by the previous regime. For years, the City’s & State's infrastructure was allowed to grow unchecked, with structures being permitted to be built and operate as hotels and other businesses while completely ignoring mandatory fire safety norms.
The previous administration systematically looked the other way, failing to enforce basic compliance audits and allowing these unsafe conditions to fester. We are now working tirelessly to undo the damage of that era and to enforce the safety standards that should have been in place all along.
My heart goes out to the families who have lost their loved ones in this heartbreaking tragedy.
I have instructed the administration to ensure that the injured receive the absolute best medical attention and support.
A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been immediately formed to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into this incident. We are determined to find the truth and ensure that justice is served.
Prayers for the departed souls 🙏

A camera captures the truth. Attacking the person behind it only exposes intolerance.
Every assault on a journalist is an attempt to intimidate the truth. The truth must prevail. #NoMoreAttacksOnJournalists
No cause justifies assaulting journalists. Cameras should never be silenced through intimidation or violence. Every attack on the press weakens democratic accountability.
If a movement cannot tolerate media scrutiny, it has abandoned democratic values #NoMoreAttacksOnJournalists

@tmmayjee The freedom to report is as important as the freedom to protest. One cannot come at the cost of the other. Violence has no place in either. #NoMoreAttacksOnJournalists

A camera is not a weapon. A microphone is not a threat. Journalists risking their safety to inform the public deserve protection not violence. #NoMoreAttacksOnJournalists

The safety of journalists is not optional. It is a democratic necessity. Violence against them must invite the strictest action under the law. #NoMoreAttacksOnJournalists
I commend the historic decision taken by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, yesterday, on the solemn occasion of Paschimbanga Divas, which would be instrumental in rectifying a historical wrong.
Suhrawardy Avenue will now be renamed as Gopal Mukherjee Road.
For decades, a major artery of our City bore the name of someone who wilfully misused state power as a weapon, orchestrating the massacre of innocent citizens for sheer political gain. By renaming it after Shri Gopal Mukherjee, the fearless soul who stepped up as a protector-in-chief to defend and save thousands of innocent lives, finally restoration of historical justice will be achieved by honouring a true guardian and savior.
It's time, West Bengal remembers, corrects and honours the Real Heroes.
When Shri @naralokesh received a Patachitra and a handcrafted Sholapith boat from CM Shri @SuvenduWB, he received far more than ceremonial gifts.
He received the songs of Bengal’s Patuas, the skill of its artisans, the echoes of its history and the spirit of its people.
A beautiful gesture that carried a piece of West Bengal’s soul from one state to another.
India’s growth momentum remains strong!
GDP growth rate of 7.7% in FY 2025-26 and 7.8% in Q4 of FY 2025-26 reflect the inherent strength of our economy, the success of reforms and the hard work of 140 crore Indians.
We shall leave no stone unturned to further ‘Ease of Living,’ ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and increase opportunities for our youth.
I would like to draw the immediate attention of @ECISVEEP regarding a grave conspiracy being orchestrated by the Trinamool Congress party in collaboration with their 'political consultancy'/'money laundering' firm, with the sole aim to subvert the democratic process and compromise the integrity of the upcoming elections in West Bengal.
According to credible reports, IPAC is systematically issuing Fake Press Identification Cards to TMC party workers. These individuals are not journalists by profession but are being disguised as members of the media to gain unrestricted access to sensitive areas, including polling premises and key administrative hubs.
These "pseudo-journalists" are being strategically placed to carry out illegal activities at the local level under the guise of media immunity.
By posing as Press, these workers can enter polling premises to intimidate/influence the Voters and manipulate the electoral process without drawing the suspicion of law enforcement.
This is also a classic playbook strategy of the TMC by Misusing of Privilege of The Press Card that grants mobility and access which ordinary party workers do not have,
In light of these developments, I urge the Election Commission to conduct a rigorous verification of all newly issued Press Identification Cards and accreditation letters issued within the last couple of months across West Bengal, and direct District Administration and Police Authorities to monitor and scrutinize new credentials of any individual claiming to be a journalist who lacks a legitimate track record in the field.
Lastly it has to be ensured that only Journalists from recognized and established media houses are permitted near polling stations, following a secondary verification of their credentials.
