The National Hurricane Center has raised Hurricane Simon to an even stronger peak intensity of 155 MPH (250 kph) and 928 MBAR.

If the storm follows the exact track of the latest cone, then the tiny fishing village of Pérula could be annihilated.

In this current possible scenario, Simon’s eastern eyewall would strike the village with full-force. Beachside homes that aren’t destroyed by extreme Category 4 winds would likely be swept into a devastating storm surge, created by the Hurricane’s direct onshore flow into Pérula’s bay-shaped eddy of coastline. Flash flooding and mudslides down the mountains surrounding the village would also be possible.

However, the tiniest shifts either east or west would completely change the level of impacts for Pérula. They might not even feel Simon’s eyewall and escape relatively unscathed.

Every trend in the storm’s motion needs to be monitored now as he closes in on Mexico.

⚠️ El huracán #Simón toca tierra mañana al amanecer. Esta noche es para prepararse, no para salir.

Lo que viene en las próximas horas, según el Servicio Meteorológico Nacional:

🌊 Olas de 6 a 8 METROS en costas de Jalisco y Colima, y marea de tormenta en Colima. Aléjate del mar. Las olas no son espectáculo: son la causa número uno de muertes evitables en huracanes.

💨 Rachas de 120-130 km/h en la costa. Asegura puertas, ventanas y TODO lo que esté suelto afuera, ya.

☔️ Lluvias muy fuertes desde esta noche en Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Nayarit y Guanajuato. No manejes de noche por zonas anegadas.

Antes de dormir: celular cargado, documentos en bolsa de plástico, agua, y ubicado tu refugio temporal.

Y lo más importante: si protección civil te pide evacuar, evacúa. Las cosas se reponen. La vida no.
