A young actress and freedom activist in #Damascus @aliaa_saeid posted a remarkable assessment of how a majority of urban Sunnis are feeling at this point about the Jihadi regime in control of the country, particularly in #Damascus, #Hama, #Deraa, #Aleppo and other centers of the Sunni Arab majority of #Syria. She was herself persecuted and jailed under the #AssadRegime for promoting freedoms and in particular social freedoms. She argues that civil society within the Sunni majority is feeling frustrated under "the new rulers." I had been warning that the urban Arab Sunni majority, including its youth, are not Jihadists and will not accept its ruling, especially its social oppression. This tweet is a live example. These are no longer individual practices.. This is a current within the state that is obstructing its growth and prioritizing its political interests over the country's economic and institutional advancement. This current follows an ideology (Violent Jihadism) that contradicts the beliefs of most #Sunnis in #Syria.
