just got off the phone with my university friend.
His daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in March.
He has insurance. Good insurance. The kind you feel safe having.
5 months later:
Savings wiped out. 401k: cashed early. Penalties and all. House: refinanced to cover the gaps insurance decided weren't their problem.
He told me he's not the same person anymore.
Said watching your child fight for her life while simultaneously fighting an insurance company over coverage codes does something to you that doesn't go away.
They did everything right.
Two incomes. No debt. Responsible their whole lives.
One diagnosis all of it in 7 months.
And somewhere a health insurance CEO is getting $35 million bonus this quarter.
I don't know how people defend this system with a straight face.
i really don't.

Mark Ruffalo links Paramount to Oracle’s ties to the Israeli military
“They are crushing workers and consolidating the wealth of the world for their own power and concentrated dominance.”
Ruffalo criticized Larry and David Ellison while opposing Paramount’s Warner Bros. deal, arguing that Oracle’s role in Israel’s war effort should be part of the conversation around the merger.
Paramount called his remarks “antisemitic” and “a bridge too far.”
The accusation that I am antisemitic is appalling and fundamentally dishonest. Criticizing the actions of the Israeli prime minister, a military technology contract, or the executives who supply it is not the same as criticizing Jewish people. This critical and necessary dialogue is then dishonestly framed as being anti-Israel. To be clear, my views come from my own political convictions and should never be interpreted as hostility toward Jewish people, for whom I have deep love and respect. Everything I know about acting, activism, and humanism has been profoundly shaped by the Jewish friends, colleagues, and loved ones who have been integral and family throughout every point of my life.
This merger has real consequences for real people, and for the entire country. Scrutinizing the Ellisons, including Oracle’s business built on data, surveillance technology and government contracts, and the serious threat to editorial freedom and the loss of a livelihood for thousands of families, is fair and necessary. The $111 billion deal would hand one family control over CNN, HBO and Warner Bros., backed in part by foreign money whose influence on editorial decisions has never been fully explained to the public.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called for serious national security review, and regulators still haven’t given the public a real answer. Until they do, the merger shouldn’t move forward. Now is the time to dive boldly into all these issues, not step back or concede.
Did a bit of research on this yesterday.
This shootout happened right in front of a Flock camera.
There are 17 other flock-style cameras within a one mile radius of this event. The police have zero suspects, and have made zero arrests almost four days later. Some are owned by Motorola, some are owned by Flock Safety, and some are owned by Axon.
@Flock_Safety and like-minded systems are not about protecting citizens or enforcing the law. They are an attempt to nationalize the HOA system to increase non-tax related revenue from minor infractions in complete violation of every American's 4th Ammendment right.
Your local government doesn't seek to take criminals off of the street. It seeks more money from your wallet now that taxation has reached its natural cap, and the "ALPR" system is how they've elected to increase revenue from fines.
This will become more insidious when city governments start selling off that revenue to foreign nations for fast budget bumps, like when Chicago sold their parking meter revenue over 75 years to Abu Dhabi in 2008.
With a government run surveillance system this large, it should be impossible for crime like this to go unpunished for longer than 12 hours. Since we are not seeing that level of security, we should all believe instead that the system is not about security at all. City and state officials pushing ALPR cameras need to be removed from their office by any means nessecary.
This woman received a summons to appear in court for theft based on flock camera evidence that she was stealing packages. The problem for law enforcement is that she had her own cameras set up, which absolutely proved that it wasn’t her. The officer refused to show her the evidence at her door because he said that she was arguing with him and not being forthright. When you look at the camera footage, it is two totally different people. He absolutely was refusing to cooperate with her. He was convinced that the camera footage showed her, even though she had camera footage to prove that it wasn’t. This is the danger of these cameras. Law enforcement in some cases is using and abusing them .
Ultimately, she was able to prove her innocence using her own camera footage, but what if she didn’t have her own cameras set up?
BREAKING: Jake Tapper: “…why were you worried about offending people who support the Ayatollah?”
Abdul El-Sayed: “Jake, on a day where we’re mourning the loss of two more service members in a war we never should have fought I think all of us ought to step back and ask whether or not everybody in Michigan, frankly everybody in America shouldn’t be sad about the fact that this president backed by the prime minister of a foreign government took us to a war we had no business fighting in. So yeah, I didn’t want to comment on it then because it’s a ridiculous pretext, and now you’re asking me about the Ayatollah who’s dead by the way, and you’re not asking me about the service members who’ve died. You’re not asking me about whether or not this war should have ever been fought. You’re not asking me about whether or not the costs that are being borne by Michiganders in the tax dollars we pay or the gas prices that are insane right now, are worth it…”😳
Companies make deleting your account harder than getting a divorce.
So, a guy named Robb built a directory of direct links to delete your account from web services.
It is called JustDeleteMe.
You type in a company name. It gives you the exact URL that kills your account, plus a color telling you how much of a fight they're going to put up.
🟩 Green means two clicks.
🟨 Yellow means you'll have to dig.
🟥 Red means they've made it deliberately painful.
⬛️ Black means you literally cannot delete it, ever, no matter what you do.
That last category is the part that gets people.
There are companies sitting in the black tier right now holding your name, your email, your photos, your search history, and there is no button anywhere on their site that removes any of it. Not hidden. Not hard. Just absent.
Most people have somewhere between 100 and 300 accounts they've forgotten about. Old forums. That one shopping site from 2014. The app you downloaded once for a coupon.
Every single one is still sitting on a server with your data in it, waiting to show up in the next breach headline.
JustDeleteMe turns a weekend of misery into an afternoon.
Its sister site, JustGetMyData, does the reverse. Direct links to request everything a company has collected on you before you pull the plug. Download it first. Then delete.
Nobody is going to clean this up for you.
Zohran Mamdani message to those who are fearmongering about democratic socialism:
"The best response is to show what it actually means. What we've shown over the last six months is exactly that. The city with the Democratic Socialist's vision is one that paves more than 170,000 potholes, a city that has delivered the lowest recorded number of shootings and murders in NYC's history, a city that is on a pathway to universal childcare, fighting for people often left behind -- workers who we've secured more than $10M, for tenants more than $64 M.
These are all indicators of what is so scary for the rightwing."
Today, an ICE agent stops in the middle of a highway, waddles towards a car attempting, to intimidate the driver and passenger, pepper sprays the car and waves bye.
Flock/ALPR cameras were also officially ruled to be unconstitutional and void, violating the 4th amendment+privacy
Have your local city councils and states abide by it
Make sure you are heard and that the ordinance is followed.
Fuck that Nazi ass company and its allies.
America 250 was going to be like a World Fair that would have attracted millions of people.
But Trump stole the money, denied permits, & renamed it Freedom 250 so he could make it all about himself & Republicans.
Trump stole America's Birthday from you! 🤬
