Day 35 of #JusticeForOchanya 💔

This is day 35 of our fight for justice.
Ochanya Ogbanje was a 13-year-old girl from Benue State. She died in October 2018 from a very painful sickness called vesicovaginal fistula. It was caused by repeated rape by her uncle Andrew Ogbuja (a lecturer) and his son Victor. The abuse started when she was only 8 years old. She was sent to live with them so she could go to school.
In 2022, a court in Benue State freed Andrew Ogbuja. His wife was found guilty only of failing to protect the child. Victor ran away and is still hiding. The police have not worked hard enough to catch him.
We cannot stay quiet. Nigerian girls keep suffering because of cases like this.
@BenuePoliceNG, @benuestategovt and @PoliceNG, please arrest Victor Ogbuja now. Re-open the case and give Ochanya real justice.
To every parent and every girl child: family should be safe. We must protect our children.
We are not tired.

Day 17 of demanding #JusticeForOchanya

Another sunrise, another day we refuse to let Ochanya’s story fade into silence.

This 13-year-old girl was sent away from home with hope, hope for education, a better future, and safety in the arms of “family.” Instead, she endured years of unimaginable abuse that shattered her body, left her with vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), and eventually took her life in October 2018.

Her uncle Andrew Ogbuja was acquitted. Her cousin Victor Ogbuja has been a fugitive for over seven years now, with reports he has been living openly in Lagos. Yet there is still no sustained public manhunt, no fresh wanted notice, and no clear update from the authorities.

The silence from @BenuePoliceNG and @benuestategovt is deafening. Every day it continues is another day we tell Nigerian parents that sending their daughters to relatives for schooling comes with unbearable risk.

To everyone still liking, reposting, tagging, and sharing, thank you. Your voices are keeping her name alive when the system wants us to forget. But likes alone won’t arrest a fugitive or reopen this case. We need:
- An official public update from the Benue State Police on the manhunt for Victor Ogbuja
- A visible, sustained search with his face widely circulated as wanted
- Real accountability that protects every girl child trusted to “family” for education

This fight isn’t just for Ochanya anymore. It’s for every daughter, every sister, every future that could be stolen the same way.

Let me put it in perspective if you still don’t know how ridiculously bad and incompetent this government is;

The five naira note is useless.
The 10 naira note is useless.
The 20 naira note is worthless.
The 50 naira note can only buy a sachet of water and gum.
N100? Three sachets of water.
N200 can’t buy one egg.

How about the highest naira denomination?

N1,000 cannot buy bread.
N1,000 cannot buy sardines.
N1,000 cannot buy a liter of fuel.
N1,000 cannot buy a liter of juice.
N1,000 cannot buy a plate of street food.

So, for a poor Nigerian to be able to feed at least 2x a day, they’ll spend between 3-7k (note: I’m talking about poor Nigerians here). Let’s assume they spend 4k per day on food. 4,000 × 30 = 120,000 monthly.

Where do you think they’ll be able to see that kind of money, only for food?
