@morgandawn6 I hope everything works out, but Iβm not really sure what trump/politics have to do with it? If they end up needing/willing to accept help there are so many people willing to give a hand, I hope they take it
@morgandawn6 There are tons of resources and people with trailers willing to help with the animals and evacuations. There is a caldor fire news and updates Facebook page they can join and find lots of help! They arenβt alone

"Literacy" suggests having space & materials for a Literate Environment. This applies to any subject & is something built over time, especially the library or publishing area & is adjusted based on subject. Literacy is important & can be applied everywhere #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
An idea in "Classrooms that Work" is partnering older, struggling readers w/ younger, struggling readers. They did this in my elementary school. I was in a class to assist struggling readers & we all had buddies. I remember my buddy & her impact on my reading. #CSUSMMiddlelevel29
"We need teachers who understand that
a student is not a label" (Consequences). For some students the teacher is their only advocate & they don't always know they need an advocate. It is up to the teacher to know how to help every student. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
Principle 8 in Reading Comprehension stood out. It was like a reading from 555. It was about a parent helping the student with math in a way they understood. Then the teacher scolded the student for not using what was taught. But people learn in different ways #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
I enjoy the guess the covered word activity in Ch. 5. Engaging students is so important in a class. This is allows students to be competitive, it also encouraging all students to participate, and allows them to be creative and use their personal knowledge. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
Using both drawings & words students expressed their thoughts (letter) I know that students need to be evaluated on knowledge & writing skills but they should also be allowed to express themselves. Allowing them to use drawing & writing we reach more students. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
Sentences are simply incoherent, students do not write what they mean & they can't mean what they write (Any Teacher) This is important b/c students just don't know how to translate thoughts onto paper. They do 1 draft & never read it again. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
I love the idea of journals (Literacy, Ch 8). It is interesting to see there are so many types of journals. I like the idea of interactive journals. My CT does something like this and she requires it to be on paper b/c everything is on the computer lately. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
The idea of a positive disposition/mindset in "understanding dispositions" article along with math is changing how I see school & learning. A friend told me yesterday "I am just not good at school" & it made me think of the impact of mindsets. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
I really like the beach ball activity outlined in "Classrooms that work". I really like that it specified to give to ELL's first so they can answer first. I think that this is a good way to get kids excited about learning, who doesn't love to play ball inside! #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
"Discussion is a teaching strategy you can use with any group at any time to activate & develop prior knowledge" (Cooper, pg 110) I think that teachers sometimes forget this & use discussion only after lectures, but it can be used before to engage students #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
I usually prefer reading in print, but as the article "Strategies to Help Students 'Go Deep' When Reading Digitally" suggests digital reading has advantages. Not having to lug textbooks, being able to highlight, and find words make digital easier in some ways. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
I really liked the phrased text lesson because I do not think that many students learn how to properly read aloud. I know that I did not. This is a skill that is beneficial outside of the classroom and something that should be focused on. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
A theme I have seen across the readings is the benefits of reading aloud to students. This is a good model for students who are trying to gain fluency. I was always amazed with how well teachers and other adults in my life could read aloud when I struggled. #CSUSMMiddleLevel29
