@SheLovesGloves He pretty threw all those kicks from a base of stability, no matter how fleeting. Also he frequently uses his lead hand to range find and to draw the opponents' guards upwards to create openings to the legs, liver etc.
He did none of those things vs Max.
@Home_of_Fight Also, I have read comments saying that the kick was close to Max's head. For me, this is actually a reflection on Max's skill to stay in the pocket and the extent that the kick had been telegraphed.
@Home_of_Fight High risk, low chance of reward, immediate demand on cardio. So many other options, other than a Hail Mary.
Save it for when the opponent is mentally fatigued, and reflexes are slower, and even then, to use Mighty Mouse's terminology, across a smaller void.
@Runba8290 Landing foot at right angle to direction of body weight. Also noted that his hip extension on the kicking side was not full, more evident in warm up video - compromised power and stability from alignment.
@FREAKMMA1 He threw the kick here and in the fight by landing with his foot 90 degrees to the direction his body is travelling, increasing the risk of injury. Traditional Muay Thai employs a lateral step while karate teaches to plant the foot with the heel as close to the front as possible.
@JiujitsuOtter Belts have 2 purposes -
1. To indicate how much of the syllabus a student had learnt & could apply on the day of their grading.
2. For other students to quickly work out how to grade their own skills to match their partners during drills.
Expectations, not ability on the day.
@FotosDeFatos The Spanish Grand Prix in 1986 showcased his absolute fearlessness and talent. Beating Mansell by 0.014 seconds, on threadbare tyres and in an underdog of a JPS Lotus.
@BrickCenter_ I train in various martial arts, including takedown and grappling practices. I have never seen anyone accidentally prop themselves on someone else's neck with a fist.
The noise crawls,
trembles the tymps;
tremors even through
a wreath of limbs.
There are thrusts
and I quake, disassociate
until I disarticulate,
the trust & limbs dissipate
until there is only the noise
and the crawl
and the trembling
and the wait.
