New replica of the lyre from the c6-7th #Taplow princely burial, by me, unveiled at @NT_SuttonHoo, Aug19. First repro ever to include the unique horn inlays and strap fittings.
Many thanks to @SueBrunningBM for her help investigating the original remains to inform this build.
Changing the name of the disciplinary body (ISAS) is only a start - we need to think about how we’re teaching and hold our syllabi to account. Are we upholding racist views through our teaching practice? I learnt so much at @margiehousley and @CCB_PhD’s sessions at IONA 1/2
We are absolutely IN LOVE with our *newest* Anglo-Saxon namestone from #LindisfarneDig
It is rare
It is beautiful
And now that it is clean... we can see that it is one of the most EXQUISITE examples of interlacing knotwork we’ve ever seen
While these are only two public engagements of a white scholar in dealing with the name of Anglo Saxonists, I am firm in my support of the need for a name change of the Society.
Anglo Saxonists cannot continue, with all its racial baggage. In my experience going to the ISAS conference in Albuquerque, I had two encounters which highlighted the public assumption of the whiteness of the field.

Second, when I was back at my school, I told someone I went to ISAS. He asked what the acronym meant. I spelled it out and his first words were, ”Are you a white supremacist?”
New old things I've been photographing lately: copper alloy spiral headed, lozenge and ringed pins and a bonus conical bell from Culbin Sands, Moray, all broadly AD 800-1100

Okay that was a lie
7. Microphones improve accessibility for folx who are not Deaf/HoH. I have excellent hearing, but I also have ADHD and it can create auditory processing difficulties. tbh if I can’t hear, I just unplug from the discussion entirely because it’s too frustrating
John Blair: Birsay. Pictish buildings often are thought to be weird and wonderful but here we can see how it exists in a context of pairs of round forms. #ISAS2019#Pictish
#ISAS2019 has begun with a paper by Leslie Webster read by Carol Neumann de Vegvar. I was looking forward to seeing Leslie again so wish her all the best. Also, I have questions about this dude! Dowlish Wake St Peter.
Post-PhD I spent yrs unaffiliated & on shit pay, worrying I’d wasted my 20s studying while friends climbed career ladders. And the ONE thing I had to show for it - the one thing nobody could take away - was my title. So here’s to my fellow #ImmodestWomen: Drs & Profs 4eva 💪💪💪
