Today, I had a productive meeting with the FAO Representative to Nigeria and to ECOWAS, Dr. Hussein Gadain @husseingadain, to strengthen collaboration between NBMA and FAO on biosafety, biosecurity, sustainable agriculture and food security.
Our discussions focused on building stronger regulatory systems, enhancing institutional capacity, promoting responsible biotechnology, and supporting sustainable agriculture in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
We look forward to translating this partnership into tangible outcomes that support innovation, protect public health and the environment, and contribute to a more food-secure Nigeria.

Yesterday, I had a productive meeting with the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, to discuss strengthening collaboration on agricultural biosafety in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, where food security remains a key national priority.
Achieving a food-secure Nigeria requires more than increasing agricultural production. It requires science-based innovation, effective regulation, and strong partnerships that protect our farmers, safeguard our environment, and build public confidence in our food systems.
At the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), we remain committed to working closely with the Ministry and other stakeholders to ensure that biotechnology is applied safely and responsibly to drive agricultural transformation, strengthen food security, and deliver sustainable benefits for all Nigerians.
In Brussels last week, I had the privilege of engaging with representatives of the European Parliament on opportunities to strengthen Nigeria’s biosafety and biosecurity systems through strategic partnerships, technical cooperation, and knowledge exchange. Our discussions focused on building stronger regulatory frameworks and enhancing institutional capacity in line with global best practices.
As Nigeria advances its global engagement under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, such collaborations are essential to protecting our environment, safeguarding biodiversity, strengthening food systems, and promoting responsible innovation. We also explored areas where international cooperation can support sustainable development and national resilience.
At the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), we remain committed to ensuring that every international engagement translates into tangible benefits for Nigerians and contributes to building a modern, trusted and globally respected biosafety and biosecurity system.
