This EO also calls on the EPA to focus on reviewing pre-harvest desiccation, a process where food is sprayed on a crop shortly before harvest - and which contributes significantly to human exposure.

Many farmers have shifted to regenerative practices which have enabled them to produce food with significantly lower chemical inputs and HIGHER profit per acre. There is a significant movement to these practices which is being embraced by farmers large and small.

While ensuring farmers who have played by the rules of our current system have stability in the short term, there has been significant dialogue about the urgent need to build a bridge to the future. Farm states in the United States have the highest cancer rates in the world. American farmers have among the highest rates of cancer, autoimmune conditions, and Parkinson’s of any profession. A governor candidate in Iowa just won the Republican nomination by making the health concerns of farmers a central campaign theme. There’s no question there are structural concerns for farmers that are leading to a crisis of your people not entering the profession.

Regenerative agriculture is a crucial part of the solution towards the future, and it is a positive development that an administration is heralding this practice for the first time.

It's the same sad old story. Institutional dogma stifles scientific progress. We must wait until those invested in the dogma die for new thoughts to take hold. We must find a way to reward and encourage new thinkers. Our current academic construct, which is the same as our old one, does not fully support the innovators.

It's easy to develop an inexpensive product that's addictive and destructive to human health. It's not so easy to develop one that tastes good and promotes human health. If product developers don't have ethical concerns for the well being of humanity, then what's to stop them? It's illegal to sell addivctive drugs like methamphetamine or heroin but not to sell addictive food products. They both result in the disruption of social and physical health at great cost to all of us. I'm not saying that we should make them illegal, but sugary snacks should be treated with the same disdain and educational force as illegal drugs.
