I don’t agree with her thesis. First, Fano is entering into a loose cooperation with other entities against the regime. Once the regime is removed, Fano will be in a much stronger position to emerge as a formidable force. It would have greater political legitimacy than TPLF, which continues to be viewed negatively by many Ethiopians, and OLA, which has less political capital than most other political actors in the country.
She focuses on the intentions of OLA, TPLF, and Eritrea. However, the issue is not that these entities pursue their own interests—we already know they do. The more urgent concern is that the Abiy regime is inflicting far greater damage than these groups could realistically cause in the future. In my view, the destruction caused by the current regime in just eight years exceeds what TPLF did during its 27 years in power by many times over.
The regime is dismantling Ethiopia at an extraordinary pace. The country is moving toward fragmentation with such speed and determination that, if this continues, Ethiopia itself could cease to exist within a year or two. From that perspective, the Wolqait and Raya disputes are of secondary importance. My greater concern is that the Amhara people could be systematically weakened and destroyed if the current regime remains in power much longer.
There are also significant strategic advantages to cooperation. It forces the regime to divide its military and political attention across multiple fronts, reducing its ability to concentrate exclusively on Amhara areas and giving Fano valuable breathing space.
As long as Fano maintains its unity, I believe it can deal with any other political or military actor. In my view, there is no greater threat to the Amhara people—or to Ethiopia as a whole—than the Abiy regime. The mass killings, daily bombings, and artillery shelling of villages have caused immense destruction. I believe the scale and pace of the damage under Abiy's eight years in power surpass that of previous adversaries, including Fascist Italy and TPLF.
Abiy seems to believe he is the smartest person in the room, but his behavior reflects what many would describe as the Dunning–Kruger effect. He appears to think he can lie to everyone, all the time, without consequences.
He tells Group A that Groups B and C are their enemies. Then he tells Group B that Groups A and C are against them, and repeats the same pattern with others. What never seems to occur to him is that these groups may eventually talk to one another and compare what they were told.
Once people realize they have all been told different stories, the deception becomes clear. At that point, the game is over. Abiy's game is over.
@HoMan99 Pls don't confuse us. People are being massacred every day by Abiy's govt on a scale and with an intensity not seen since Italy invaded in 1935. In fact, l believe the today is even worse. Getting rid of Abiy is the primary and most important objective for the foreseeable future
