My latest article in the Journal of Asian Studies is out. Looks at the root cause of the Rohingya crisis in a comparative framework with that of the Miya crisis in Assam.

@PhilipPanass What if I have a BA from Stephen’s, MPhil from Cambridge and PhD from Tufts? Oh and Journal of Asian Studies publication? Unfortunately I dare not because even random DU colleges wouldn’t interview me:)
@PriyamvadaGopal Funny thing is in India at least for some of the public universities in the initial rounds there are some objective parameters but in the final interview all objectivity is tossed out of the window.
Villagers near Hyderabad were surveyed by economists so many times that when another economist showed up & asked a question, an irritated villager said, “Is this for a PhD or M.Phil? I will accordingly make the answer long or short.”
@ManishTewari@thetribunechd@ManishTewari There’s a tiny factual error. Choudhry Rehmat Ali wasn’t an Oxford dilettante rather a Cambridge one. In fact he’s buried at the Cambridge City Cemetery and his funeral expenses were borne by Emmanuel College.
@EdithMirante In two of the images I believe the Soorti Sunni Jama Mosque is clearly visible. One of the earliest mosques in Moulmein erected by the Surti Muslim traders from Gujarat.
