@ArtMollypop Social media is a great way to stay connect to your friends. I can relate to this b/c when I was younger, seeing my friends face to face wasn't always an option b/c I didnt have a parent who was willing to drive me around. I used social media communications to stay in touch
@MUlippy I think the word freedom is changing with the world around us. I think it is okay for the youth to lean on social media for freedom because it has so many positive impacts. The media is just as informational as it can be sociable.
@MUlippy Social media is a great way for a student who may be very shy to come out of there shell&make themselves public by posting & sharing things of their interest. This can also help there peers get to know the "shy" student through social media because maybe in school she isnt public
"We're all teenagers, teenagers do dumb. Thats one of things our parents say, "You make mistakes, everyone makes mistakes" (30:31 CNN) #YES! Mistakes are how we learn. It is ok to make a mistake & be dumb at any age, b/c it will help you sculpt the person you are in the future
"Social media is positive for a lot of 13 year old, it's a way for them to connect with friends, a way for them to see what people are doing" (20:02 CNN).
15:15 CNN talks about the rules and requirements to take a selfie. I am #shocked, I have been taking #selfies and never knew about the rules. It surprising to see something that my age group was doing is now more in depth with the teens now #EDFN
"They say things on social media they would never say face-to-face" (6:21 CNN) This statement was #true for me too. I felt that my social skills were better through the internet because I had time to think what I wanted to say #EDFN
"When teens turn to networked publics, they do so to hang out with
friends and be recognized by peers" (Boyd 203) It was my way of socializing and being in the mix of things during my high school years #Communication#EDFN
"Their lives are regulated both by their parents & by institutional
forces." (Boyd 202) Let them run into situations to solve on their own. It will lead to "you live & you learn". We take our mistakes & strength them by not doing them again or trying again #LetTeensLive#EDFN
My #firstimpression of Chapter 8 was that Emily is me and I am Emily. I related so much to her and wanting freedom. It started to get my to think maybe all children feel this way since I did relate to Emily so much. To parents, "do not put a hold on your child's social wanting"
"For Emily, going to places where her peers gather is a freedom" I was the #socialbutterfly of my family. I wanted to constantly be doing something with my friends and I knew if I wanted to do something, that I need to complete my chores first. (Boyd 199). #EDFN
"Many of her cultural touchstones were familiar to me,
including the Turkey Hill convenience stores that dotted the area
and Park City" I'm sure most of us can relate to this tweet considering our college is located right near Lancaster #centralpa (boyd 199).
@ZacharyZuch This was interesting to read. Social media has a whole different perspective on who you follow/your online friends. I would never guess that this statement was true because I don't understand why you wouldn't be friends online if you interact with each other in the "real world"
@ml0103 I still feel like the internet can fix everything even though I know that it can't. The internet is a great tool that I am thankful to have but really isn't much help to social problems instead I feel like it creates social problems more then solves them
@cmallen21 It's a way people socialize now is through rumors. I have come across many people who can not start a conversation without being negative towards someone. They only know how to conversate off gossip #sadtruth
"As if we agreed to talk at each other rather then with each other" 9:59 Ghonim Most of my post on social media are posted with no expectations for anyone to respond to, instead it just something I am writing at my followers
"We tend to only communicate with people we agree with" 8:45 Ghonim
I have never realized how true this statement is. I agree with this statement from personal experience, I involved myself around people who I agree with #EDFN#communication
Social media helped Ghonim escape his 11 days of misery when he was kidnapped by the state security. Social media is the one who set him free. Imagine, if it wasn't for him to create that Facebook page.. would he still be alive today? or would the security have killed him? #EDFN
