Kejela concocted, very badly, a new history for the Oromo claiming the Oromo were in Northern Ethiopia for 3 thousand years. He did not, however substantiate his claim with evidence.
The fundamental problem is the constitution. As Prof. Mamdani noted in 2018/19, ethnic-based federalism creates, by definition, permanent majorities and minorities that erode citizenship rights in favour of group rights. It is only by reforming that federalism into a geographic-economic-administrative based federalism, with serious devolution of power through decentralization, that the root cause of the problems could be addressed.
He lived by his principles.True He also killed and maimed thousands for these same principles. But what principles. His ethnic politics resulted in an everlasting war killing tens of millions of Ethiopians,Tigreans included The net gain is in the negative
How time flies?! Fourteen years since Meles’s passing. He was one of a kind, indeed! Whatever misgivings some might have had about his policies-no leader is immune to criticism- he did everything he could to live by every one of his principles and for good measure gave his all to everything he held dear.
May he rest in peace!
BREAKING: Trump's $10 billion BBC lawsuit is BACKFIRING BIGLY and may force Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's January 6 evidence back into the courtroom
After making $16 million from Paramount/CBS to settle one of his frivolous lawsuits, Donald Trump figured he could keep suing media companies and rake in the dough from corporate CEOs who would rather give in than face a protracted and expensive legal fight.
But Trump got greedy and wanted a $10 billion payday from his next target, Britain’s venerable public broadcaster, the BBC.
What he's getting instead is a legal nightmare of his own making.
Trump sued the BBC last December, claiming a documentary on their news program Panorama, "put words in his mouth" by editing together portions of his January 6th speech delivered nearly 50 minutes apart.
He even bizarrely claimed the network used AI to fabricate his words — it didn't. The BBC did splice the footage, which sparked an internal investigation, the firing of some senior officials at the broadcaster, and the issuing of a written apology.
An apology simply wasn't enough for Trump, however. He still wanted that $10 billion.
Now his lawsuit against the British broadcaster is unraveling spectacularly.
A federal judge ruled this week that Trump must hand over detailed financial records from more than 400 companies tied to his family trust — because HIS OWN lawsuit claims the BBC's editing damaged his businesses.
You can't claim massive financial injury and then refuse to show your books. Judge Enjoliqué Lett wasn't buying the attempted dodge: "All of President Trump's brand, properties and businesses are impugned... Reputational, economic damages, all of that is now at issue in this case."
It gets worse. The same judge greenlit subpoenas targeting Trump's inner circle — Donald Trump Jr., Steve Bannon, and Stephen Miller — to determine what Trump actually intended on January 6th.
And now, in a third gut-punch within 24 hours, the BBC is demanding records showing exactly how Trump LOST his executive privilege claims during Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's January 6th investigation.
Smith's team had already gathered evidence establishing that the Capitol violence was "foreseeable" to Trump, that he "caused it," and that he made "a conscious choice not to stop it" once it began. If the BBC gets that evidence, Trump's entire defamation case collapses.
Trump built a career suing media outlets into silence. This time, he sued an organization willing to actually fight — and in doing so, handed prosecutors a roadmap straight into his finances, his inner circle, and his own conduct on January 6th.
Plus, the public may get another chance to review the evidence that Jack Smith amassed against Trump, evidence that judges appointed by the litigious president have made sure that he’ll never be held accountable for.
Sometimes a lawsuit is simply a trap you built for yourself.

BREAKING: Obama just PERFECTLY diagnosed Trump's bizarre obsession with him — and it's a brutal indictment of Dementia Donnie’s presidency.
Barack Obama just put words to something millions of Americans have noticed for nearly a decade: Donald Trump is utterly, pathologically OBSESSED with him, and Obama explained exactly why that should terrify anyone who cares about the country.
Speaking on the "All The Smoke" podcast with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Obama was asked about Trump's fixation. His response was as cool as it was devastating.
"I obviously have a room in his head," Obama said, as the hosts jumped in: "Rent free."
"A SUITE in his head," Obama corrected, drawing laughs.
But then he turned serious — and landed the real blow. Obama explained that when YOU'RE actually doing the job of president, you simply don't have time to obsess over anyone else.
"When I was president, the last thing I had time to do was worry about what somebody said or what my predecessor did. They're gone. I've got work to do."
He continued: "It's hard to describe how, if you're doing the job right, every day you've got five, ten things that are real hard and you have to be constantly focused. The idea that I'd be worrying about somebody who came before me, trying to measure what's he done today — constantly worried about that is a strange thing to me."
Then came the kicker that cuts straight to the heart of Trump's entire presidency: "It shows me somebody who's NOT focused on the American people."
That's the whole thing right there. While Americans struggle with $6 gas, soaring grocery prices, a war nobody wanted, and healthcare being stripped away to fund billionaire tax cuts — Trump is on Truth Social at 2am ranting about Obama, posting fake videos, and stewing over a man who left office nearly a decade ago.
Obama is living rent-free in a beachfront SUITE in Trump's head. And every minute Trump spends there is a minute he's NOT spending on the people who actually need a president working for them.
Focused leaders don't obsess. They WORK for the citizens of this country. The only work Donald Trump does at this point is focused on his own enrichment.

Five years ago June, 10, 2021, a gaint of giants of Ethiopian Studies and a gifted Ethiopian – American philologist and linguist, Professor Getachew Haile has joined the ancestors at the age of 90. He was the leading scholar of modern and medieval Ethiopian languages whose scholarly work was foundational for Ethiopian and Oriental Christain traditions. As Emeritus Regents Professor of Medieval Studies and Cataloguer of Oriental Manuscripts and Curator Emeritus of the Ethiopian Study Center at the Hill Monastic Manuscript Library of St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, Professor Haile cataloged more than 5,000 manuscripts and published 10 catalogs to which he dedicated years of meticulous and studious work foundational in Ethiopian Studies.
Professor Haile was a rare and gifted intellectual force and was the recipient of the MacArthur Fellow 'genius' Program as well as the Edward Ullendorff Medal from the Council of the British Academy and many other notable awards.
As I noted a very brief remark on another platform about the passing of Professor Getachew Haile, I received the following note from someone at the National Library of France, “He has left us so many articles, translations, and editions of Ge'ez texts, books... They will last and keep inspiring so many studies. RIP Professor.’
