Shout out to these 4th graders! Thinking deeply about why Katrina is considered the most destructive and costliest hurricane in US history. #SFLearns#SayMeanMatter
S's analyzed images and text about Chicago's Great Fire. How did the photographer and author support the idea that Chicago was "ready to burn" in 1871? Questions erupted: What were fire departments like? Why wasn't safety part of city planning? When was cement invented and used?
Lots of smiles on these Ss' faces as they built their ideas around character interactions using maker bags @angelastockman , developed their ideas with #SayMeanMatter and posted their response on @Flipgrid. Amazing to see the thinking emerge when not limited by print.#sfearns

Theyโve done it again! ๐๐ป You can now annotate on PDFs in @seesaw! ๐ Plus check out the new zoom ๐ tool. Always making it easier & better for Ss to reflect & share their thinking ๐ญ & learning. ๐ We love Seesaw! ๐๐
@AngelaStockman Thanks! We are using SayMeanMatter as a thinking strategy for analysis. What does the text say? What does it mean? Why does it matter? It is supporting Ss with going beyond the inference and getting Ss to show the relationship between elements like character and theme in this case.
Blown away by these 4th graders and their amazing thinking. Ss used maker bags to tinker with their ideas around character development and used Say Mean Matter strategy to dig deeper into The Dot. @Nearpod@MakeWriting#saymeanmatter#SFLearns
Introduced 5th grade students to @WhooosReading to track minutes, answer questions about self-selected books and write book reviews to recommend books to classmates with a short text @StorylineOnline.com. Kids loved it and I loved the specific feedback the site gives!
Thanks to all of the teachers who participated in sessions today! We had fun using talk, tech tools and โmakingโ to promote that deeper dive into text. #SFlearns#saymeanmatter#bookheadheart#makewriting@Nearpod
I am so THANKFUL ๐๐for these amazing 1st graders who jumped into the @seesaw tool today! Ss practiced identifying nouns, drawing person, places and things they were thankful for. Even got them recording their thoughts and sharing ideas with friends! #sflearns
