Juneteenth celebrates the emancipation of slaves in Texas over two years after Abraham Lincolnโs Emancipation Proclamation. Union Major General, Gordon Grange, and his troops enforced the freeing legislation in Texas bringing slavery to an official end on June 19, 1865.
