Day One of the Africa Region Leadership Conference in Harare, Zimbabwe
The Africa Region Leadership Conference in Harare, Zimbabwe, opened with CEOs, regional leaders, funders, and strategic partners from across the continent coming together to discuss leadership, impact, and organizational growth.
One of the morning’s standout sessions was a panel discussion featuring our CEO, Madam Josephine M Saidu, the CEOs of Teach For Kenya and Teach For Uganda, including the global CEO of Teach for all Wendy Kopp. The conversation focused on how organizations can communicate impact effectively and engage stakeholders around a shared vision for change.
Drawing on Teach For Sierra Leone’s experience, the CEO emphasized the importance of clearly articulating the organization’s Theory of Change to build trust and attract investment. She explained that partners are more likely to invest when they understand how interventions drive measurable, lasting outcomes for children, schools, and communities.
She also shared how Teach For Sierra Leone stays relevant in a rapidly evolving education landscape by responding to community needs while remaining firmly committed to its mission of ensuring every child has access to quality education. Through continuous learning, evidence-based decisions, and strong community engagement, the organization continues to adapt and innovate without losing sight of its purpose.
Madam Josephine, further explained how TFSL aligns partners with its Theory of Change and mission by building relationships rooted in shared values, mutual accountability, and a commitment to educational equity. By pairing data with compelling impact stories and transparent reporting, the organization has strengthened trust and expanded its network of supporters.
Reflecting on the organization’s achievements, she highlighted results that showcase the impact of Teach For Sierra Leone’s work in underserved communities. She noted that these successes stem from strong partnerships, committed leadership, and a sustained focus on long-term systems change.
The session delivered practical insights on stakeholder engagement, impact communication, and partnership development, setting a strong and inspiring tone for the rest of the conference.

With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Aminata C. Pyne, who departed this life on the 30th of April, 2026. On the 16th of May, 2026, family, friends, colleagues, pupils, and loved ones gathered to lay her to rest, bidding farewell to a young woman whose life was marked by dedication, compassion, and selfless service.
Aminata was a committed Cohort 6 Fellow of Teach For Sierra Leone, where she served diligently and wholeheartedly at UMC Primary School Bailargo. She was more than a teacher; she was a mentor, a role model, and a source of hope to the many children whose lives she touched each day. Through her patience, kindness, and unwavering commitment to education, she inspired her pupils to believe in themselves and strive for a brighter future.
Yesterday’s burial was a moment of deep reflection and grief as the Teach For Sierra Leone community, alongside family and friends, paid their final respects to a remarkable young woman whose life embodied service, humility, and love for children and community. Though her journey on earth was cut short, the impact she made will continue to live on in the hearts of the children she taught, the communities she served, and the many lives she influenced with love and dedication. Her memory will forever remain a blessing and an inspiration to all.
May the soul of Aminata C. Pyne rest in perfect peace.
Following the successful distribution of solar lights to pupils across Kori, Fakunya, Kowa, and Kamajei Chiefdoms in Moyamba District, TFSL on the 9th of May 2026 conducted a monitoring visit to NPSE examination centers in Moyamba Junction, Taiama, Njala and Senehun, to observe the conduct of the examinations and engage with pupils who benefited from the initiative.
The visit provided an opportunity to witness firsthand the determination, confidence, and preparedness of pupils sitting to the NPSE. Across the centres visited, many pupils expressed excitement and appreciation for the solar lights, noting that the devices enabled them to study at night and revise more effectively ahead of the exams despite the electricity challenges faced in their communities.
School leaders, teachers, and community stakeholders also commended the intervention, emphasizing that access to light made a meaningful difference in supporting pupils during one of the most critical stages of their academic journey. In communities where many families cannot afford alternative lighting sources, the solar devices became an important tool in helping children remain focused on their studies.
The monitoring exercise further reaffirmed Teach For Sierra Leone’s commitment to supporting equitable learning opportunities for children in underserved communities — not only within the classroom, but also through interventions that address barriers affecting learning outcomes.
As an organization, we remain inspired by the resilience and determination of these pupils and proud to continue standing with communities to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and succeed regardless of their circumstances.
Fallah Jibba, a graduate from ETU, Kenema Campus, majoring in Agriculture, is a dedicated teacher leader, currently serving in RC Primary School, Gbondapi Community, Pujehun District. Passionate about transforming lives through education, Fallah is committed to ensuring that children in rural communities have access to learning opportunities and the support they need to learn, grow and thrive.
Beyond the classroom, Fallah actively reaches out to children who have dropped out of school due to poverty, lack of support, or difficult home conditions. Through village outreaches, and engagements with parents and guardians, he advocates on the importance of education. He has successfully supported several children to return to school and continue their learning journey.
Fallah continues to create meaningful impact within the Gbondapi community. Despite the challenges, he remains motivated by the smiles of children back in school, renewed hope among families, and the growing belief that a better future is possible.
TFSL is immensely proud of Fallah for his dedication, compassion, and commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind. It is our hope that the Gbondapi community will continue to embrace Fallah and his colleagues and create the enabling environment for their support to be meanningful.
Meet Josephine Bakhita Sesay, President of the 7th Cohort and a graduate from UNIMAK with a BA in Development Studies.
Since beginning her Fellowship journey in the Masantigie community, Josephine has remained committed to supporting the growth and development of children and young girls both in the classroom and within the wider community.
At school, Josephine leads the KG class, creating a warm and welcoming environment where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to learn. Through play-based activities and storytelling, she has instilled confidence and communication skills in her pupils.
Beyond the classroom, she has extended her impact into the wider Masantigie community. Recognizing that many young girls had limited exposure to practical skill development, she introduced small skill-based activities such as hand bead making. Through this initiative, she is helping girls develop creativity, patience, and concentration, while also exposing them to the importance of acquiring practical skills alongside formal education.
Her work reflects the true spirit of transformational leadership identifying needs within the community and taking action to create sustainable impact. We celebrate Josephine B. Sesay for her dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of these young learners and the Masatigie Community as a whole.

On the 24th April 2026, we successfully distributed solar lights to over 1,000 pupils across Kori, Kowa, and Kamajei Chiefdoms in Moyamba District, ensuring that access to reliable light is no longer a barrier to learning.
For many of these pupils, studying has often been limited by darkness. Today, that reality is changing. These solar lights represent more than just a source of light, they are a gateway to extended learning hours, improved preparation for the NPSE, and renewed hope for academic success.
The distribution was carried out under the dynamic leadership of our CEO, Madam Josephine M Saidu, with the presence of the School Quality Assurance Officer (SQAO) from MBSSE, Mr Ahmed Vangahun, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening education systems and supporting pupils in underserved communities.
This milestone was made possible through the generous support of the Lena Marshall Foundation UK and Solar Buddy. Their partnership is not only providing solar devices but also unlocking opportunities for children to learn, grow, and thrive regardless of their circumstances.
At Teach For Sierra Leone, we believe that where a child lives should never determine their access to quality education. Through initiatives like this, we continue to work towards a future where every child is equipped with the tools they need to succeed.
