6. Staff rooms can be complicated. Older members of staff will appreciate “banter”. Insult them on a personal level in the opening weeks of term: they will respect you for this.

Primary ECT/NQT Advice Thread:

1. Only smile until Christmas. It’s the last thing they’ll be expecting.

2. Don’t reply to any emails, from anyone. Teachers aren’t expected to. If you’ve joined the profession from another line of work, this may be counterintuitive but lean in.

Seeing examples of teachers describing a move out of Y6 as though it’s a demotion. Fucking embarrassing. When people say “only primary” - that’s the same attitude that you’ve got towards your own profession. It’s pathetic. I’m furious.
