Learning loss for students in elementary school. A long 🧵
Our government loves to take credit for filling in the gaps for all the learning loss with this program and that program but I’ll let you know a secret. /1
Pathetic….
Right now in many Calgary schools, they have to be creative in creating additional ‘classrooms’
Possible classroom spaces could be;
-Staffroom
-School library
-hallways or main foyers
-gym
Schools are bursting at the seams

Truth. Teachers need to stop funding their classrooms. New teachers especially usually feel so much pressure to supplement what their classroom doesn’t have. #teachers#fundclassrooms#learning#education https://t.co/M8kafvBrlZ
Like many of you, wages have not kept up with inflation and every month there seems less and less left for my family. So sorry, I can’t buy the extra whiteboard markers, or pencils, or Kleenex. Get on your MLAs to push for proper funding.

A thread
Ah. It’s that time of year. Where I see parents post on social media how much they are spending on their kids school supplies. I get it, I have kids too but it’s still not even close to what many teachers spend out of pocket. 1/8
If every parent sent a receipt of their back to school supplies shopping, well maybe it would make an impact? So many parents have no idea how bare a classroom would be if teachers didn’t spend their own money, at this point in my career I’m so done spending my own money 7/8
@ShantelSherwood Because the amount of hats teachers have to wear is unsustainable. I am at any given moment expected to be a speech therapist, OT expert, mental health support worker, psychologist, nurse etc without that actual training. I can assure you majority of teachers are trying to learn
I don’t know a single teacher that is thriving at the moment.
We all seem to be hanging on by a thread, counting down the days until the next holiday.
Surviving seems to be the common goal on so many levels.
When did Teaching start to feel like a prison sentence?
.@Alberta_UCP & @ABDanielleSmith Explain why you're letting down kids & parents.
