Dr. Rachel Schreiber, Dr. Kristin Sokol, and PA Jen Schaeffer caring for pts with variety of #allergy#immunology conditions, providing #OIT for #foodallergy
During this Food Allergy Awareness Month, we are illuminating Government House blue tonight in support of the more than 32 million Americans living with a serious and potentially life-threatening food allergy.
While anaphylaxis to #COVID19 vaccines is rare, there are reports of “reactions”. It gets confusing. We clarify: side effects, allergy symptoms, plus non-allergy responses to the vaccines.

The FASTER bill passed the Senate! But now ... the big push is on to make it law. Read about the bill that would make sesame a top U.S. allergen & prioritize #foodallergies in DC. + How you can join @FoodAllergy's big summit (starts Mon) to lobby to get this bill into law!
Risk of anaphylaxis to COVID-19 vaccine: .001%. Risk of anaphylaxis during conventional subcutaneous immunotherapy: 1%. Risk of anaphylaxis during rush immunotherapy: 35%. Must looks at risk with concerned patients. #AAAAI21
I assure EVERYONE that the allergy organizations are well aware & working hard to help.
We should all take a deep breath & not make any rash judgment from incomplete media reports lacking extremely important details necessary to make informed decisions. This will get sorted out.
Key take-aways, in line with Dr. Kari Nadeau’s research, highlighted in her book “The End of Food Allergy,” include the 5 D’s: Diversity of diet, Dog, Vitamin D, Dry skin, and Dirt and dribble. #ACAAI20#AcademicTwitter
This weekend we attended the @ACAAI annual meeting (virtually of course). Some stand out lectures focused on the prevention of food allergy, which is a fascinating topic still very much being studied around the world. More to come... #ACAAI20#AcademicTwitter
Love hearing experts on oral immunotherapy at the #ACAAI20 . With my awesome group @TeamAllergy we have provided OIT for 100’s with many different food allergens. Such an important slide- OIT improves QOL for patients and families!! For the right family, its a life changer!
@Rosie24924755 @CJMillerWrites @AllergyKidsDoc I have never seen this specific box before. Benadryl = Diphenhydramine; Zyrtec = cetirizine. Not the same!!
@Rosie24924755 @CJMillerWrites @AllergyKidsDoc Definitely not the same!! Benadryl has a different mechanism of action, crosses the blood brain barrier, can cause a whole variety of side effects, and only lasts a few hours. CetiriZine much safer.
Benadryl is not a benign medication. It has many potentially serious side effects AND there are so many better alternatives available.
Yesterday’s FDA warning highlights what we’ve known for years. It’s time to reconsider WHY we use this outdated drug. https://t.co/wUmyrOCc1O

Thanks again to @FoodAllergy for my webinar on newly diagnosed food allergies yesterday! Lots of great questions after the discussion, esp regarding diagnosis of FA. Remember... Sensitization (+ testing) DOES NOT EQUAL Allergy. #foodallergy#foodallergy101#foodallergyawareness
