The easiest mistake to make during remote instruction is overusing tech tools. The more tools, the more clicks, the more confusion. Not just for students, but for parents, teachers and admin. Keep it lean. Use a few tools well. And stay consistent.
Smartest thing I heard from a supt recently:
As part of reopening planning, arrange a simulated school day (or even 1/2 day) for key stakeholders (supt, bd, union pres, etc) to "attend" school under draft plan.
From bus to class to bathroom, walk in their shoes b4 deciding.
Wearing a mask is no different than wearing a seat belt or using a car seat for a baby. Seat belts don’t stop you from driving. Masks don’t stop you from shopping or walking. It’s the bare minimum to ensure safety.
I do not have an answer for the current situation our schools are experiencing, I wish I did — but I do know the answer is not packets of worksheets sent home with students to complete. Just sayin...
It seems districts don’t mind if teachers constantly work late hours since they do it for free. But Imagine if teachers got paid for the late hours they work, I bet districts would tell them to go home then. Districts need to make sure they aren’t encouraging burnout but balance.
We were recently asked if it was OK to withhold recess as punishment. @YoukiTerada and I reviewed the medical guidance and the research and reached a clear conclusion: No, it’s not OK. #Right? #Right
@njfranke17@SteveWyborney Did this today with some 2nd graders and they loved it! Always a happy smile when I put an esti-mysteries up. Thanks#SteveWyborney

Principals, it’s ok to include a couple of more jeans days next year! Make them spirit days if it makes you feel better. The world won’t end, the students won’t riot, and parents aren’t going to think any less of the teachers. But your teachers will appreciate it and you!
