Unpopular opinion: The backlash and hate Katy Perry received for going to space was mass hysteria. She harmed nobody, paid for it herself, wasn’t the only one who went, and she’s not responsible for there being no food in your refrigerator.
Open Letter: She Sings, Cries and Resists – Why So Much Hate?
Being a Katy Perry fan hasn’t been easy these past few years. Since 2017, we’ve watched an artist who has always radiated light, joy, and authenticity become the target of endless criticism — and lately, it’s crossed into something darker and more inhumane.
It’s as if people forget that behind the colorful music videos, bold costumes, and unforgettable choruses, there’s a human being. A woman who loves, who feels deeply, who makes mistakes and learns from them. A woman who isn’t afraid to reinvent herself, to share her wounds, to sing her pain — and still smile through it all. "Smile" wasn’t just an album. It was a cry for empathy. And still, it was met with mockery.
Now with “143”, we see a more mature Katy — raw, honest, and still carrying that signature sparkle. And what does she get in return? More jokes. More unfair comparisons. More rejection. Why? Because she doesn’t fit the internet’s shallow mold anymore? Because she chose evolution over validation?
This letter isn’t just a fan’s rant. It’s a plea. A call for basic human decency. There’s a difference between criticism and cruelty — and far too many people have forgotten that. Katy Perry, with everything she’s given to the world — to us — deserves better.
She gave us songs that defined eras, made us dance, cry, dream. She taught us to be ourselves. She made us believe we’re fireworks. And even when the world tried to dim her light, she kept shining.
Isn’t it time we met that kind of love with some compassion?
With love,
