What a privilege it is to stand alongside such inspiring women at the 2025 Africa Women Innovation & Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF) in Cape Town. This gathering reminded us of the brilliance, courage, and vision that drive Africa’s future. We spoke about the power of women’s leadership - not as a slogan, but as a proven path to sustainable growth and stronger communities.
Yet as we celebrate success, we must also ask ourselves: are we measuring progress by what happens abroad, or by the strength of our own African ideas? True progress comes when we develop homegrown solutions, grounded in our people, our environment and our lived realities.
Across Africa, we have built strong frameworks - from the Maputo Protocol and Agenda 2063 to national constitutions like Zimbabwe’s, which enshrine women’s representation and equality. But the real test of commitment is not in how many policies we sign, but in how those policies behave when a woman tries to use them.
When bureaucratic systems delay or obstruct women’s participation, when opportunities exist only on paper, or when leadership is celebrated symbolically but not structurally supported, that is where progress falters. These challenges are not abstract. They are felt daily by women in #Zimbabwe who struggle to access finance for their businesses, face limited educational and digital opportunities, and must still fight against cultural expectations that question their right to lead. Gender-based violence and workplace discrimination continue to silence potential and weaken the very communities we seek to strengthen.
At the International Centre for Professional Development, we are working to transform this reality. Our initiatives are designed to equip women with the skills, confidence, and support they need to lead - through education, mentorship, professional training, and access to coaching and a network that help them start and grow their enterprises.
We collaborate with policymakers, institutions and business leaders to ensure that equality moves beyond rhetoric into real, tangible change. We also create spaces where women can connect, learn from one another, and build solidarity - because empowerment thrives in community.
The Global Gender Gap Report warns us that, at the current pace, gender equality will take 134 years. #Africa does not have that time. Our continent’s future depends on how boldly we invest in women and girls - not just as beneficiaries of development, but as architects of transformation. When women thrive, entire nations rise.

Women in #Zimbabwe face perennial battles with relatives over inheritance. Our country’s laws recognise civil, customary and unregistered customary marriages. As a government in waiting, UZA will carry out a complete review of all inheritance laws. #UZAWomen
"If the youth wait for perfect conditions to lead, they will wait forever. Leadership begins when we take responsibility for the future, even when the odds are against us." - Rickson Bonzo, Harare Province
As a government in waiting, UZA will ensure that young citizens have a right to State funded adult basic education. We will also ensure that every person has the right to register and establish independent educational institutions of reasonable standards. #UZAYouth
Many criticise that #UZA was sponsored by the state to create an illusion of a multiparty democracy but we believe this reflects the toxicity that we have in #Zimbabwe’s politics where people get into politics for bread crumbs & spoil democracy.
Everyone must be included in the building of a strong economy for our country. We need more opportunities for all citizens, but before we can expect real stability as a purposeful nation, we must face the troubling realities & inequalities of our nation’s political landscape.
As a government in waiting, #UZA understands that a country’s economic growth requires stability. To tackle Zimbabwe’s many issues and pave the way for a better society, UZA aims to bring together all Zimbabweans from all backgrounds, including men, women and youth.
As #UZA, we are organising and mobilising for the party; we are building structures and strength to ensure that the people’s cause is protected. @PresValerio

Mother’s Day in #Zimbabwe is not just about flowers or gifts. It’s about celebrating the women who carry families & the dreams of a better nation in their hands. UZA recognises the leadership of mothers, those who nurture & raise generations that still believe in #Zimbabwe.
One of the key issues lowering the standard of living for #Zimbabwean citizens is corruption! The push for good #governance, #accountability in the use of public resources and an end to corruption in Zimbabwe and other #African countries is a wake-up call for African leaders.
Today, on #InternationalWorkersDay, we don’t just celebrate work - we recognise the long hours, silent struggles and quiet sacrifices of #Zimbabwean workers trying to make ends meet in a broken system. We deserve better. #AsWeBuildZW
#Zimbabwe is being suffocated by rampant corruption and unprecedented failures in service delivery. It is also evident that the overwhelming majority of #Zimbabweans across the nation are being affected and are becoming less sympathetic. If those in power truly believe that “the voice of the people is the voice of God,” then they must heed the cries of the suffering masses.
A government that truly respects its mandate would be singularly focused on fulfilling its electoral promises, not on perpetuating its rule. Instead of governing with competence and vision, the regime has been fixated on consolidating its grip on power and hoodwinking the public with hollow slogans rather than actioning genuine developmental plans. We are merely two years into this term, but already the national discourse is being hijacked by the self-serving agenda of prolonging political dominance rather than addressing the immediate and pressing needs of the citizenry. This push for an extended term may in part have been intensified because many of the current political players now know that their likelihood of reelection (in a true democracy) is slim! The eyes of #Zimbabweans are now open - the citizens wont be pacified by false promises and sloganeering.
As our nation continues to be held hostage by the internecine conflicts within the ruling party, we stand at a precarious juncture.. #UZA has no vested interest in the current #ZANU-PF factional power struggles, but I do want to see our nation progress. It is IMPERATIVE for government to prioritise national interest over its insatiable appetite for power retention. The people have spoken - loudly and unequivocally. The Constitution of Zimbabwe must be upheld and democratic principles must be respected. The call for accountable and transparent servant leadership is not just an option - it is a necessity for the survival and prosperity of our beloved Zimbabwe..

#ZimbabweanYouth deserve more! These social abnormalities have become normal and these political issues now serve as distractions that divert our focus from the main message: the youth are the leaders of tomorrow. What ever happened to genuine #YouthEmpowerment?
