Before you panic, here's what's actually happening.
The FDA has been skeptical about peptides for years.
They effectively banned them in 2023 by calling them high-risk products.
So this recommendation wasn't a surprise to anyone paying attention.
But at the same time, HHS just stacked the advisory panel (PCAC) with 8 new members, most of whom have direct ties to the peptide and functional medicine space.
The panel that's going to vote on this in July now looks very different from the one the FDA was expecting to rubber-stamp their recommendation.
The July 23-24 hearing is where this gets decided.
The FDA staff wants them gone.
The new panel and HHS leadership appear to want them available.
The panel's vote is advisory and non-binding, but HHS leadership sits above the FDA career staff, and right now every level above the staff doc wants the opposite outcome.
Peptides aren't dead.
The fight just moved to a different room.
