Teamsters at Breakthru Beverage in Florida have extended their unfair labor practice (ULP) strike to operations in Arizona, Delaware, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. As a show of solidarity, more than 700 Teamsters in those states are refusing to cross the picket line.

More than 160 drivers at Breakthru locations across Florida were forced on strike after the company illegally fired workers for union activity and refused to bargain in good faith with the Teamsters.  Breakthru’s last offer included pay cuts of $15,000 to $30,000 annually per worker and no improvements to benefits. Teamsters in Florida have been asking Breakthru to offer the same wages and benefits that Teamsters at the company’s other locations already receive.

Our hearts go out to the family of Rep Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark. As well as Senator John Hoffman and his wife. They were targeted this morning in politically motivated acts of violence, resulting in the deaths of Melissa and Mark.

Teamsters at Breakthru Beverages in Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Orlando, Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Tampa were forced on strike after the company committed unfair labor practices. Breakthru illegally terminated workers for supporting the union and continues to seek unreasonable concessions.

"Breakthru is refusing to bargain in good faith and is failing to give our members what they have rightfully earned: industry-leading wages, Teamsters health care, and secure retirement benefits," said Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters Brewery, Bakery and Soft Drink Conference. "This company created this work stoppage and must own it. They must stop their attacks on working families right now."

TEAMSTERS LAUNCH LARGEST STRIKE AGAINST AMAZON IN AMERICAN HISTORY

The Teamsters will launch the largest strike against Amazon in U.S. history beginning at 6 a.m. EST on Thurs., Dec. 19. The nationwide action follows Amazon’s repeated refusal to follow the law and bargain with the thousands of Amazon workers who organized with the Teamsters.

“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They ignored it,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “These greedy executives had every chance to show decency and respect for the people who make their obscene profits possible. Instead, they’ve pushed workers to the limit and now they’re paying the price. This strike is on them.”

Workers will join the picket line from DBK4 in New York City; DGT8 in Atlanta; DFX4, DAX5, and DAX8 in Southern California; DCK6 in San Francisco; and DIL7 in Skokie, Ill. Amazon Teamsters at other facilities are prepared to join them.

Teamsters local unions are also putting up primary picket lines at hundreds of Amazon Fulfillment Centers nationwide. Amazon warehouse workers and drivers without collective bargaining agreements have the legal right to honor these picket lines by withholding their labor.

“What we’re doing is historic,” said Leah Pensler, a warehouse worker at DCK6 in San Francisco. “We are fighting against a vicious union-busting campaign, and we are going to win.”

Amazon is the second-largest corporation on the Fortune 500 list. Despite being worth more than $2 trillion, the company fails to pay its workers enough to make ends meet.

“Amazon is one of the biggest, richest corporations in the world,” said Gabriel Irizarry, a driver at DIL7 in Skokie, Ill. “They talk a big game about taking care of their workers, but when it comes down to it, Amazon does not respect us and our right to negotiate for better working conditions and wages. We can’t even afford to pay our bills.”

Nearly 10,000 Amazon workers have mobilized a movement and joined the Teamsters. They are fighting for higher wages, better benefits, and safer conditions at work.

“I’ve seen the Teamsters win big battles,” said Dia Ortiz, a worker at DBK4 in New York. “We’re ready to do what it takes to win this one.”

TEAMSTERS REACH MAJOR NEW AGREEMENT WITH ANHEUSER-BUSCH, BOOSTING WAGES, PROTECTING JOBS
Today, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters reached a five-year tentative agreement significantly raising pay, improving health care and retirement benefits, and providing critical job security for all 5,000 Teamsters at Anheuser-Busch breweries nationwide.

The tentative agreement was unanimously recommended by the Teamsters National Negotiating Committee after reconvening at the bargaining table with Anheuser-Busch representatives late in the day on Wednesday.

“Teamsters make the beer, Teamsters make Anheuser-Busch successful, and our members deserve the best contract. That is what we fought for and won today,” said Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien. “Anheuser-Busch knew our members were serious and prepared to do whatever it would take to get a fair agreement. After a long day and a longer campaign, we’ve reached an agreement that sets a new high standard for the brewing industry. Teamsters continue to hold the line at Molson Coors in Texas for a fair contract, but Molson Coors should pay close attention to the bar we’ve set today for brewery workers across the country."

Highlights of the tentative agreement include:
•Significant job security for all 5,000 Teamsters at Anheuser-Busch, including brewers, packagers, and warehouse workers
•Wage increases of $8/hour, including an immediate $4/hour raise in the first year — average wage increases total 23 percent over the length of the agreement
•$2,500 ratification bonus for every member
•An end to two-tier health care, providing all workers with the same high-quality Teamsters health care coverage
•Increased pension contributions and benefits nationwide
•Increased maximum vacation accrual to 8 paid weeks
•Restoration of retirement benefits for active and retired members

"Teamsters at Anheuser-Busch will have big pay raises, better benefits, and job security under a strong agreement that benefits everyone. The Teamsters fought hard and made sure we got every single item that our members need and deserve,” said Jeff Padellaro, Director of the Teamsters, Brewery, Bakery, and Soft Drink Conference.

The full tentative agreement will be shared with members prior to the ratification process, with voting expected next week.
