@brendenmoore13@CapitolNewsIL And the take that the Bears were ill-prepared is so inside-Springfield. The legislature has had over 3 years to deal with this. They punted at every turn. And this is the NFL, states and cities are at each others throats to get a team. They generate billions!
@brendenmoore13@CapitolNewsIL The City opposed AH being the only path in IL, insisted on leaving the door open for an imaginary Chicago site. The Bears leadership was AWOL at key meetings with legislators. 1 + 1 = They're going to Hammond.
@21FrankS@BrianCostin The Bears were simply asking for property tax certainty - in the $10-12 million range annually - same as most NFL teams. And about $800 mill in roads and infrastructure around the site. There are no "tax breaks for billionaires."
@Maestermagoo Very prescient...I haven't seen anything in the last 24 hours that's flipping the script. Everyone involved is very quiet, except for the predictable CYA stuff from politicians in Springfield.
@danpompei@jon_greenberg Also youโre ignoring Indiana. They may threaten to take their offer off the table. Bears then have to know where they stand with IL taxes. If they donโt have a deal, they will walk.
@RepKamBuckner That final Senate bill is a joke -- basically a F you to the Bears. You go build it, the State will own it. What message does that send to the team? To me it reads, "we don't need your business, best of luck in Indiana."
@lacherbauer Chicago can't do big things anymore. Have you heard a vision for Chicago from civic leaders -- other than "Build Better Together?" And current RE fire sale prices and tax uncertainties mean the economics of a huge downtown building are highly suspect.
@uiowa Iโm saying right now that this โsing kumbaya and hold each other closeโ BS cannot be a key theme of the University response. There needs to be a clear-headed, fact-based response and based on Pres. Wilsonโs overall performance as a leader, Iโm not certain thatโs going to happen.
@RocDocs13@JeffBarnes52 expenses that support the entire department rather than one particular sport. These costs include facility maintenance, athletic director and administrative staff salaries, legal fees, and marketing.
@ukboomers Lovely fields, farms and forests...preservation is the best of all possible worlds for the fortunate few who live in those surroundings. When you've seen this splendor close up, who could in good conscience would seek further development of much-needed housing?
@czabe@CzabeCast@andypollin1 I had to laugh at another one he had recently, which was Linda Eastman McCartney, the Eastman Kodak heiress. Even casual Beatles fans know that is an urban legend.
@czabe@CzabeCast@andypollin1 I love Andy but he really needs to fact check things a little more carefully, the Trump Tiger pardon thing was immediately debunked.
@wagsischasing A couple of the match points were very suspect. TP ran out of gas when he got to 4 match points? That doesnโt happen often with top 30 players.
