After Uber announced its exit from Nigeria, drivers were left figuring out what came next. Then, the company announced a ₦40,000 goodwill payment for drivers. We went out on the streets of Lagos to ask drivers what they thought of the payout after years on the platform. Here’s what they told us.

Nigeria’s biggest Initial Public Offering (IPO) should be a big payday for the fintechs helping investors buy it, but they are charging customers ₦0.
Dangote Refinery opened its ₦2.15 trillion ($1.62 billion) public offering on September 14, and investment platforms including @investbamboo , @cowrywise , and @piggyvest are not charging users direct transaction fees after buying the offering.
These fintechs are waiving direct fees such as brokerage, stamp duty, trade alerts, and Value-Added Tax because the bigger prize is the customer.
Here’s why:

Mafab Communications is seeking to transfer its key spectrum holdings to MTN Nigeria in a transaction that could end its run as one of Nigeria’s 5G operators and signal a wider reshuffling of the country’s scarce telecom spectrum.
The proposed transaction covers Mafab’s 2×20 MHz holding in the 2.1 GHz band and its 100 MHz block in the 3.5 GHz band, according to people familiar with the matter. The transaction is still undergoing regulatory approval, one person said.
If approved, the transfer would mark a significant reversal for Mafab, which paid $273.6 million in 2021 to secure a 100 MHz block in Nigeria’s first 5G spectrum auction and become one of the country’s two initial 5G operators.

This fake FRSC traffic fine could empty your bank account
Several Nigerians woke up on Wednesday to messages from “Traffic” informing them that they had committed a traffic offence and owed a fine.
The messages directed recipients to a link where they could review the alleged offence and make a payment. Some recipients followed the link, including MC Monica, a Nigerian comedian, who says he was told to pay a ₦5,000 ($3.76) fine.
After paying the fine through the linked website, Monica says he woke up the following morning to find that ₦1.8 million ($1,353) had been debited from his Wema Bank account. He also says his account officer told him nothing could be done.
His experience has since drawn attention online, with other Nigerians reporting that they received similar messages and raising concerns about the payment link and possible unauthorised debits. These are individual reports, however, and the full extent of the alleged losses has not been independently established.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria’s road safety and traffic enforcement agency, confirmed in a statement that the messages are fraudulent. It specifically disowned the website , saying it has no affiliation with the Corps, and warned that the links may be intended to harvest personal, financial and other sensitive information.
“The deliberate impersonation of FRSC personnel and the deployment of counterfeit digital platforms to deceive motorists constitute matters of serious concern,” the FRSC said.
FRSC advised Nigerians not to click on the links, make payments or share banking information in response to the messages. It also urged anyone who receives them to preserve the evidence, avoid further engagement with the sender and report the matter through the appropriate channels.
Look beyond the payment infrastructure @paystack created, and you’ll see that the fintech giant also gave Africa bold, ambitious builders.
From Idorenyin Obong, who went from building at Paystack to founding @greyfinance , to Femi Aluko, who helped lead Paystack’s engineering before co-founding @chowdeck ; Douglas Kendyson, who went on to build @tryselar , to Mallick Bolakale, who now runs @StartbuttonHQ ; and Cossi Achille Arouko, who is building @BujetiHQ , Paystack’s alumni have gone on to build companies of their own and shape Africa’s digital economy. And they are only a few of the builders who came through Paystack.
This is a reminder that great founders are often shaped by great institutions. Paystack has been one of those institutions.
At Moonshot by TechCabal, we’re bringing together the institutions, founders, investors and ecosystem leaders building with the courage and conviction to shape what comes next for Africa.
