@monad_sublator@BrianLeiter It's a good exercise. The missing apostrophe makes me suspicious that it is exactly what it is—a human masquerading as AI. That being said, more and more non-writers are adopting AI patterns because they are so prevalent.
@Marc__Watkins Much like other attempts to identify AI content, this will likely prove effective on those who are too lazy or unskilled to hide the watermark. Anyone who really wants to and is able to hide the watermark will probably do so.
@kelly_erin_@CastlesofImagin It is absolutely not authentic writing. In which real-world scenario are employees asked to write a document in a one-hour time period without research, reflection, or proper proofreading? I will always support drafts and student-paced writing.
@taylordissensus@Marc__Watkins Meaning how the study was conducted—they were not the same exam, one being a midterm and one being a final. Finals are often more difficult, making it a poor comparison. To be more reliable, the tests would need to have tested the same material.
@erica_d_stevens It's a good idea to take breaks so that you're grading according to the rubric and not in comparison to the last essay you read. I find it's most important after essays that are particularly good or awful.
@DebsValidation@erica_d_stevens I'm definitely not, as evidenced by the fact that I don't work on the weekend, so I didn't have access to this account for a couple of days. 😏
@AnnaRMills I think there is a difference between "not policing" and turning a blind eye. In cases where academic misconduct due to AI use is obvious, the rules of the institution must be applied.
@techczech A common AI tell—the em dash—has not changed for me at all. I still use it at the same frequency, perhaps even more frequently, because its existence is not the sign. It's that em dashes sometimes appear in every second paragraph of AI output. The same is true for the others.
@DominikPeters It's very inauthentic. No one writes anything remotely academic in those conditions. There is no ability to reference other authors. There is no spellcheck. No breaks. It would produce a first draft without polish and evidence.
