@arstechnica From what I read, it only kicks in if you've connected Gmail, Drive, or Photos to Google's AI features like Personal Intelligence. Another good reason to start moving off the cloud.
@xdadevelopers I've heard horror stories of people yelling through a window and getting a voice assistant to open the front door or garage. Lights and blinds are fine for me, but I haven't integrated the garage or doors yet. Where do you draw the line?
@xdadevelopers 100%! Getting containers running was pretty easy with compose files. Getting OAuth and passkeys working with SSL on the reverse proxy took way longer than expected. Silly security 😅 What do you see people skip the most?
Chrome has Split View built in now. Two tabs side by side in one window, no extension needed.
Fastest way: drag a tab to the edge of the window, or hit Shift+Alt+N (Cmd+Option+N on Mac).
What two tabs would you put side by side first?
@joelcomm Grok is the first AI I open, and Gemini only because it's baked into Google search. Half the time I'm not even prompting it, since my bots check in with me through the day. Do you still start with a prompt, or do you let AI come to you?
Sizing up the new X Subscription usage limits.
I only code with Grok Build now and then. Most of my usage is Grok chat, plus Grok Bot running routines and checking in with me through the day.
I think I'll be fine, but I'm a little worried I'll burn through it.
If you've switched, what's eating most of your weekly usage?
@JakeDSBD24 💯 Same here. I also like short async check-ins. Each bot does its work in the background, then catches me for quick feedback. What routine gets the most use for you?
@jevlorde A NAS at home as my personal cloud, with cheap cloud cold storage as the off-site backup. Best of both. Anyone else running it that way, or trusting the home copy alone?
@vspinmaster Bare metal for me. Docker runs straight on my NAS, and Arcane is the only thing I use to manage it. What would push you to add Proxmox underneath?
@cooksbayouboy That part was bothering me too. I wasn't seeing any people talking about it that weren't writing code so I signed up for it $30 plan and I'll use it for a couple weeks here and let people know how I find the usage.
My photos don't live on Google's servers anymore. They're on a NAS in my house, running UGREEN Photos, and Immich is on my list to try.
What would it take for you to pull your photos off the cloud?
@HeIsTorien That's a great point. Something I need to spend more time on is being aware of what I'm doing and why, and diving deeper than the tutorial.
