So absolutely thrilled to see my first paper out in J Neuro today! Here, my Honours work, with beautiful RNAscope from @Ongbaba96’s Masters, investigated gating mechanisms of somatostatin interneurons in the NTS https://t.co/b8nyv6EJ2U @SfNtweets@TheFlorey @UniMelbMDHS
@Napaaqtuk The biggest change I found was that the business world “feels” very different to the academic world. Expertise and attribution of ideas or work are viewed differently, as can the emphasis on optimisation or polishing of work. I’m unsure how one prepares for that, though!
@o_guest My favourite is the lucky dip each day between being a “five simultaneous tasks” kind of day, or a “one singular task and absolutely do not suggest otherwise” kind of day
HUGE congratulations to @SynapticHolly on an absolutely beautiful oration!! 🎉 I am so ridiculously proud of everything this amazing woman has achieved. Without a doubt the most hard working person I know, it fills my heart to see you shine 🤩✨
Leaving academia is not leaving research.
Leaving academia is not leaving science.
Leaving academia is not failing.
Not sure who needs to hear this today, but please believe it.
FYI: 12+ months later, a little bit of life flipping upside down, a few extra months in lockdown, an ADHD diagnosis, lowkey leaving academia, I’m finally on the home stretch #KimSubmitYourGoddamnThesisPls
Ever wanted to know what it’s like getting a tech job before submitting a wet lab PhD? Opening your two year old R scripts to see if they’re worth putting in as an appendix, and wondering if re-writing them in Pyspark would actually be faster than working out your baby code 🥺
It’s pretty crazy that I’m already coming up to 6 months at @camplexer! What a nice milestone to be invited “back” to speak to @TheFlorey students about careers post research degrees (maybe I’ll even submit my thesis soon, too 😬)
