@virologyanon@ProfSteveKeen Anonymous-my understanding is that banks are ‘required’ to have deposits, but have many ways to work around those rules. Banks seek deposits because they pay minuscule interest on those deposits, then choose to purchase treasuries at a higher rate, or lend the funds out.

As announced on March 15, 2020, the Board reduced reserve requirement ratios to zero percent effective March 26, 2020. This action eliminated reserve requirements for all depository institutions.
